Best short international trip travel insurance recommendations?

Any recommendations for a travel insurer for two seniors (one 81) for a single trip to Thailand using Qantas, Bangkok Air and Singapore (not on points this time). Have checked out the reviews for Covermore and they are often quite negative. Lots of others to consider but any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

I find Insuranceandgo cover, so many scenarios..

Another real world experience....

Returned from the US a couple of weeks ago and one of my internal AA flights was cancelled out of Dallas due to summer storms (along with 400 other flights that so easy for the insurance company to verify) Was not able to get on to a rebooked flight until 26 hours later. I phoned Insure and Go from the airport and they verified my policy covers me for a maximum of $150 per 12 hours delayed with no excess on this type of claim, so $300. I incurred an additonal $620 in uber, accommodation and meal costs staying at the same accommodation i did the night previously.

Insure and go has done nothing but stonewall. The first thing was the claim portal (no other way to claim). After clicking drop down boxes to claim for 'cancellation', 'flight cancellation' due to 'weather' it would not let me go any further until I submitted 'cruise documentation'. It did not mention anything about submitting 'flight documentation' so instead I submitted screenshots of the AA app showing my cancelled flights and I know insurance companies can also verify this on the back end. I subsequently got asked an email saying they didn't know what I was claiming for?!

After resolving what I was claiming for through further emails they subsequently wanted (this is copy and pasted from the email they sent me):

• Copy of ORIGINAL Complete Flight Itinerary
• Written statement from the relevant airline/ Transport Company outlining the reason of and the length of the delay / cancellation. It also must state if the airline/ transport company did or did not compensate you for the said cancellation / delay
• Copy of new / rescheduled / re-booked flight E-ticket
• ALL ORIGINAL invoices/receipt of payments for any expenses incurred due to the delay
• Credit Card Statement/ Bank Statement showing your payment transactions (for the expenses that you wish to claim) - kindly highlight your payments. You can block out the information that you do not wish to disclose and is not related to your claim

I then contacted AA to get an insurance letter (this was an experience in itself), which I now have but it did not say that I was/was not compensated, but I think it is general knowledge in the US travel world, airlines do not compensate for weather issues. The rebooked flight e-ticket was all done through the app so it has been a hassle trying to get this additional documentation as I do not know the e-ticket number and my booking reference doesn't work because the travel is now completed...so another phone call to AA. I think the insurance company knows this is a hassle and most people give up.

I have now resubmitted my claim and I am still waiting. I do not recommend Insure and Go.

We are going to Greece and Turkey in August and we will not be purchasing Insure and Go ever again. We are looking at Medibank or relying on NAB credit card insurance now that it includes covid cover (effective 30 June), although we have not relied on this insurance before so will require investigation of the PDS.
 
Sorry to hear this and I suppose Covid created this kind of cost cutting everywhere.. Hope traveller take screenshots so that he/she can upload screenshots. Its a new world with post covid and hope travellers drop in to put their cases here.

Just looking now. 2 travellers, 65 and 74, 7 week trip including US and Europe. Tick was $1,500, 1Cover was $1,850. We'd probably look at 1Cover because our only claim experience (rental vehicle excess) was with them and it was painless.

This is where something like ANZ platinum (low fee) might be a worthwhile investment.

$79 annual fee. Only $250 spend required before departure to activate insurance. That can be taxes on an award seat!

Covers pax to 80 years. Primary and spouse can be covered. Includes vehicle excesses.
 
Was mulling over using my AMEX ultimate card 8nsurance but Mrs Pineapple has pre-existing conditions. Does ANZ have uption to cover that?

They do, sort of.

ANZ will complete a pre-existing screening… pretty similar to other companies. If they cover it you have the choice to proceed (have it listed in the policy) and pay a $75 fee for the screening. If you decide not to proceed you don’t have to pay the $75.

There is no extra charge for the pre-existing cover itself. It’s either covered, or not.

I guess ANZ doesn’t work where, for example, you might have a high-risk condition where you might get cover if you pay $500 or $1000 to be covered for that condition with other companies.

In my case I have a condition which has been treated and is successfully under management, including medication. Haven’t been in hospital for the last 12 months, don’t have any upcoming appointments for further exploratory treatment, etc. This was covered ‘for free’, so I paid the $75 and they added the pre-existing to the policy.

I have used ANZ Platinum for many years and have never had a problem with them,always received full refunds,flights,(points) accommodations,lost items etc.I certainly can recommend them.
 
Had a look at the ANZ Platinum/Black and the T&Cs and coverages look pretty similar to the $1,800 1cover insurance, the latter has some unlikely to use bells and whistles and a few higher limits. Stuff like this in the 1cover policy is a total turn-off - 4 hours is their MCT for disruptions!

We will not pay for a disruption to Your Journey if:
a) You missed a connecting flight or transport service where the stopover, layover or connection originally scheduled on Your itinerary was less than 4 hours.

Stopped buying travel insurance several years back when I upgraded to free travel insurance with ANZ Black Card.

Includes cruises and covid cover for no extra cost. Cover for medical special conditions can usually be obtained for a low cost.

That is what turned us away from 1cover @PineappleSkip .
The one instance of concern with our upcoming Europe trip ( pre paid accommodation fully refundable up until that day) is about missed connections.

Although we meet MCT, our AMS-LIS is the last flight of the day and should there be a delay in arrival, we would forfeit a night's accommodation - would not be able to notify hotel as we will be enroute from HK.
Will use our comp ANZ Platinum cover.
 
Try Allianz Travel Insurance, since I find they are quite good with the cover, cost and any claims.. We had an emergency in London and visiting Harley St specialist gave us good report and Allianz Travel Insurance paid total minus excess with out any issues..
