Best PE seating on 777 [& other advice]

Beaudy! I'll do the ottoman thing ... :D
The footrests are integral to the seats in PE on the 777, except for the front row (row 10), which are provided with a big foam ottoman once the seatbelt sign is off. In my opinion the ottomans would be completely impractical on the 737 because 8 ottomans would fill up 80% of overhead space in the J cabin. ...

edit: sitting at the back you can see everything thats going on as well, slightly less boring than staring at a bulkhead.

I've just booked a return to LAX in October and went with 14C going out and 14H coming back, partly for this reason. Also, as a solo traveller I'm hoping 14A/K won't be allocated and I'll get my own private "corner" at the back.

Any feedback from anyone else who's flown in this cabin lately?

You are WP so you may have a better chance than others... however don't get your hopes up. You may never know they may upgrade you to J... (it's happened to me) You are in the hands of the VA gods!!:)

I've heard of a number of WPs having some luck in this area so fingers crossed but if I'm not that lucky I'm sure W will be good. I thought about J both ways but couldn't justify the premium and I figure W is a good compromise.

VA PE seating SYD - LAX

Hi

Interested in people's views on best seat choices in PE on VA1 and VA2 to LAX.

I prefer a window seat and am travelling by myself. I tend to be active long haul.

Is the bulkhead row (row 10) okay or is the leg room more restricted than other rows? Do you still get the footrest?

I am Gold so whole cabin is open to me for seat selection.

Thanks!

Re: VA PE seating SYD - LAX

Avoid row 10 if you can! Leg stretch space is non existent.

The [-]forest[/-] footrest exists bit it just makes things worse.

Row 11 rocks!

Row 10 seems to be height dependant. I love row 10 and would pick it every time, but I am vertically challenged.

Re: VA PE seating SYD - LAX

Thanks everyone.

Interesting comment re height - I'm only 5ft5.

Might give it some more thought. When I booked there were 4 other seats taken in the cabin (including row 11AC) but inbound no other seats were unavailable yet.

Re: VA PE seating SYD - LAX

FWIW, I am 6' with a small butt.

(Butt size can have an influence on one's sitting stature)

Re: VA PE seating SYD - LAX

Flown in 10 and had no problem 5'10.

I found I liked having no one in front of me, plus being able to get up whenever, but anything except row 14 is good really

VA B777 Premium Economy Opinions

When I started flying VAustralia to Europe in 2011, I was initially very impressed with their Premium Economy product. After the re-branding to Virgin Australia, I have felt that the quality of product has been slipping. When I started flying VAustralia, the self service bar was always filled with plenty of snacks and both a variety of Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, with a staff member on hand to serve you and have a good chat. However in more recent trips, this has been lacking, including one trip last year when I flew to LA in economy being significantly better than the return premium economy flight. Service has always been hit and miss, but more towards the latter than the former in the last year. Having booked two return trips in premium economy next month, I was wondering whether someone who has flown VAustralia in premium in the last few months could let me know their opinion of the current state of their "premium" economy product and whether you would consider a change of loyalty to another airline due to what seems to be becoming a poorer value for money option than what it used to be.

Re: VA B777 Premium Economy Opinions

I flew Y+ AUH-SYD a few months back, and to be frank I thought it was cough. I appreciated the extra space of course, but the soft elements were lacking when compared to QF. Drink selection, food quality were all sub par. Service was very hit and miss. No welcome. Did not feel it was value, nor did I feel valued.

Re: VA B777 Premium Economy Opinions

Nothing good to say about VA Y+, I got upgraded from Y on my last flight back from LAX and almost turned it down as I went from what I consider the best seat in Y to the worst seat in Y+.

The food is basically the same, still comes with the same coughpy foil on top.

The snacks/bar are not that different, both are pretty coughpy, its plain chips in Y vs. Plain chips, some biscuits and chocolate in Y+ (unless you drink on flights, which I don't)

If you have status already all the non flight benefits of Y+ are irrelevant.

I would never pay for VA's Y+ and I wouldn't even be keen to spend points on a upgrade either.

Re: VA B777 Premium Economy Opinions

I had a great flight on the way to auh with only 5 people in the cabin. I had only ever flown y internationally before so maybe that helped. Liked the wine, food wasn't great and appreciated the power points and the entertainment system. No lounge access at the time though

Re: VA B777 Premium Economy Opinions

Flew PE to AUH last week and thought it was excellent!

The head FA came and introduced himself to me, and asked if there was anything he could do as I was a platinum. He popped past another few times during the flight to checkup also, always referring to me by name.

Meals were served to me and the one other platinum in PE before everyone else, and drinks were constantly topped up, in real glass, not plastic.

For the price, I thought it was pretty good!

Mak404matt's experience matches mine flying MEL-LAX-BNE - albeit twelve months ago.
