best options for BOS-DCA on sunday 19/9 - advice requested

Need two seats Boston to Washington (not BWI) and would prefer AA. Direct prices are mid $300 each and I am not sure if booking code 'S' attracts points or status credits (QF WP).

does anyone have any advice here? (could catch the Acela train one suspects?)

Have a look here on the Airline Earning Table.

For AA flight numbers, S earns as 'Discount Economy' at ½ a QFF point per mile, with 500 points minimum.

JetBlue would seem to be a good choice at USD99 for a one way from BOS-IAD. AA at $300 one way would give 500 FF miles in S class
