Hi all,

Advance apologies for the rookie question...

We are planning a trip to visit some relatives in Nairobi in Sept and Oct this year and looking at flying with either Emirates/Qantas, Etihad or Qatar.

As we are travelling with our 1 year old, we would like a stopover for a few days in either Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha.

Any thoughts on which would be best (both airline and stopover destination)? Alternatively, any thoughts on going via Muscat with Oman Air?

Will you be departing from MEL? If not, you may be looking at more than 1 stop to NBO. Even with EK, you may end up on the services which operate via SIN/KUL/BKK unless you don't mind the extra journey time (which seems to be the case if you're considering WY)...

And are you a member of Emirates Skywards, Qantas Frequent Flyer and/or Velocity?

Personally, I have a bias towards QR given that I used to work for them!

Qatar[QR] may also be OneWorld member in October (so earn Qantas points)

My parents did this trip earlier this year - EK is the easiest from MEL. The actually had a few days in DOH on the way to visit a friend for her 40th birthday. ie. MEL-DXB-DOH, DOH-DXB-NBO-DXB-MEL.

Qatar use "regional" aircraft to NBO so that ruled it out for them (flying J) as the J product was rubbish and they wanted a pretty penny for it.

Since you're stopping over (in ME) the connection time of the flights doesnt matter, i'd say EK will be by far the easiest. You will need to decide if you want a single 14hr flight to DXB, or a brief (1.5hr) stop in SIN/KUL on the way (may/may not be easier with child).
