Hello everyone - you all seem to be so helpful so I've plucked up the courage to join this forum.

My husband and I will be travelling overseas for business in Feb and need to spend 5 days in Dubai so thought we would head to France for skiing afterwards and have some pleasure at the same time. I am not keen flying the direct business ADL to DXB via Emirates as the seats don't look like they are fully flat so am happy to go via a less direct route to take the opportunity of a fully flat bed. Plus being 6' means that I need space... I selected GVA as the final destination as we have used this airport to fly into before for convenience to get to the ski fields, however are happy to select somewhere else if cheaper to fly into.

Does anyone have any route suggestions that will give us the stopover we need? Of course looking for the best price too :)

Welcome to AFF edegv2!

I am not too certain you will find an easy way to get to Europe via Asia but with a stopover in Dubai. Seems like Qantas or Emirates via SYD/MEL is the best way to go.

Also consider buying Avianca or US Dividend miles and redeeming awards but a little too late for February travel. Plenty of threads on AFF with the detail required.

Thanks for your suggestion which I will keep in mind for our next trip most likely at the end of March.

I have booked a business fare from SYD to DXB flying Qatar on a flight that is codeshare with Cathay for $4777 and will book the Europe section separately (as where we fly into will now all depend on where the most snow is, and that all looks like it's falling in the US at the moment!).

We like stopovers on long haul, normally we go via HKG to Europe have a night there both ways. CX have flights from ADL/HKG then on to DXB then to CDG.

Plenty of snow in the Haute Tarentaise ( Les Arcs, Courcheval,Tignes ,Val D'Isere ) just now and plenty of options to get to GVA as well- Lufthansa thru MUC and FRA ,Swiss thru ZRH amongst others and don't Qatar fly direct to GVA , to tie in with your other fare?
The euro is much better value than the US$ aswell, and don't even start me on the French cheese compared to .....well you know :D .Enjoy the snow
