Really happy with my Audio Technicas (ATH-ANC7b which are probably superseded by now).

BOSE does stand for "Buy Other Sound Equipment" after all :)

Just picked up the qc20i for $319 from myer. Went to coles and bought a $319 gift card first on plat edge. Fly OS on Sunday so will pay a visit to the TRS.

+1 for the Audio Technica. Probably isn't quite as good at the noise cancelling as the bose but the pure sound is better than the bose.

And at about half the price it was a no-brainer for me.

I have both the Audio Technica Quietpoint and BOSE QC15. The latter has better sound and noise cancelling. But is the BOSE worth more than twice the price?

Bought a pair of QC15s brand new sealed in the box off some dude on gumtree for $250, was an unwanted gift.
Thanks to everyone for your contributions on this thread.

Good stuff, I did the same (except used the 5x QF cash portal to get the gift card). After five days of use, I am using them a lot including on my daily commute.

Audio Technica ANC9s for the better sound reproduction (really noticeable difference in mids and treble)... Plus.. still usable if the batteries die... Plus.. replaceable cable... Plus.. longer lasting from a wear and tear perspective... Plus... you get the point.

What's the deal with the TRS? Do I need to take the box? Or can I just take the case with the headphones in it and the receipt? I've currently got the receipt in the case with the headphones.

No box required.

I must admit that I haven't heard the ANC9s, but I did try them on and I hated the fact they sat on the ears rather than around them. That would drive me to drink ;) so they didn't get any further than that with me!

Yeah, that would annoy me too..
Are you sure you're thinking about the ANC9? I don't have terribly smallest ears (in fact my year two buzz cut had kids calling me dumbo) but they fit around my ears pretty comfortably (very comfortably in fact)

I can't say I've tried too many other ANC headphones, but I am a big fan of my QC15s - I use them as my general/office headphones as well. I strongly prefer the over-ear design of the QC15s rather than on-ear design of the QC3s.

Have heard good things about audio-technica, though I've found them rather hard to come by in Canberra.

It was the ANC9s but I had thought later that perhaps the ear muffs were squashed flat a bit because I tried them at an airport where they had them on display but resting 24/7 on the head shaped rack (if that makes sense). I guess headphones aren't designed to be "worn" 24/7 so there is a possibility that they were damaged (didn't look like it though).

As far as large ear cushions go, the Sennheiser PXC 450's take the prize in my book....they're massive. The Sennheiser MM 550x set that I own are smallish but do work. When I first bought them, I thought the ear cup size may be a problem, but I've found I put them on behind the ears comfortably first and then the fronts sit perfectly. If I had any bigger ears, they would be a problem and I would have preferred them to be just marginally larger (although not as big as the PXC 450's).

I am not sue what headphones a passenger on my flight on Friday had, but I was amused to see the phono plug into adaptor for the 3.5mm plug setup, it pretty much doubled the length of the phone it was plugged into.

I'm going with the QC15's. I don't like stuff "in" my ears. Makes them red and itchy.
