Best economy class flight experience

I have only flown Turkish airlines once... A small sector between IST and ATH a few years ago. But was very, very impressed. No lounge access to sway my view. Catering on board was very good. Plane seats comfy.

BA have never impressed me in economy. Ugh. Qantas and virgin are OK but again are pretty meh.
I have had good treatment in Y with Qantas and Virgin but these were purely due to status... Nothing else.

One day I will try Virgin America. They do get good reviews.

I've had some great overnight sleeps on most airlines, including AK and JQ. For daytime flights, I find MH is excellent.

Another vote for SQ upper deck. Found both Row 81 A&C & row 71H&K were well worth the extra I had to pay. Even found the upper deck Y boarding experience had its advantages!

To the OP:
You may not have flown on a Y ticket for years, but I bet you've flown in plenty of Y seats. Almost all intra Europe J class offerings seem to be pseudo J nowadays - economy seating with a guaranteed shadow. On BA you get better food and beverages (still not great) and sit further forward, but that's about it, I'm afraid.

All of my non-oneworld travel is in Y. Singapore Airlines BNE-SIN-CDG was certainly a highlight. Much better than Malaysia Airlines BNE-KUL-LHR. My personal favourite though was Wizz Air. Some of the cheapest flights I have ever been on outside Air Asia. Really comfy soft leather seats and never even remotely full. Never hesitate to fly with them in and out of Hungary since Malev went belly up.
