Whats a good cc for a uni student who is working and studying part time earning about $35,000 per year. She would like to earn freuquent flyer points/ rewards and with a low yearly fee

I'm a fan of the Westpac Earth Gold. Points earning is fairly good and insurance is one of the better credit card ones.

Only issue is Annual Fee is $125 (although I've always had it waived) and technically you need to make $50k to get it. Although I know plenty of people earning what you do who got approved.

Thank you for your reply. Will definitely look into it. How did you get the annual fee waived?

The answer depends somewhat on the type of Frequent flyer/rewards points they want to get.

If just qantas frequent flyer points then i'd suggest the ANZ frequent flyer visa. It earns at the same or better rate than the Earth Gold and has a lower fee ($95). It is capped. But a student earn ing that much shouldn't be spending that much per month on average. In particular, based on my student experience, the card should be paid off every month.

Otherwise, is they are looking for general rewards, something like the ANZ rewards visa (or rewards visa gold) might be the go. Earning at 1 point per $1.5 is not as good. But flights can be redeemed with a range of domestic airlines, the annual fee is lower again (~$50 or $80) and other awards can be redeemed. I haven't checked if the cards will still be able to get Qantas rewards after 31 March 09 or if the redeemtion rate is expensive or not.

I'm sure the other banks have similiar cards.

I would have thought that with an income of around 35k , that the value of rewards would likely be more than offset by the cost of the card and that a no /low fee card with no rewards would likely be better value

It'd depend Dave. If a postgrad student that income is likely to be a tax free scholarship. I know as a postgrad student not on a scholarship but earning about that much money, I managed to get enough points for a couple of flights with the base ANZ FF visa.

But I'd definitely agree that they should sacrifice potential earning for a lower fee.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

When I was in Uni I holding CBA gold card.
The annul fee is like $114.

Award potins equal 1.5=1 QFF point.

I don't think bank restrict on level of income.

At begging I only got student credit card.
Then after 1.5 years CBA send a letter ask me upgrade to gold card.

The funny things I am not Australian even no regular income at all.
Maybe some mistake there.
