Turneeri, I am flying QF Y+ to London next month and will report back.

Except I can't, because there was a change of aircraft for mechanical reasons, and the new plane did not have Y+, so I was asked very nicely if I would mind terribly being put in J instead. I didn't mind

Nice one. Was that because you have status with QF? I presume not everyone in Y+ could be upgraded and would have had to be downgraded - any idea what happened to them?

It's probably a combination of status and Y & J availability.

I think they were doing their best not to have to downgrade anyone because I was actually also asked to go on a different flight number which arrived a few mins earlier at LHR - I think this was so that there was enough space on the original flight for all the remaining Y+ people to be put in J.

The only other info I can give is that the Qantas staffer said to me he was having a lot of trouble contacting some people because they were from overseas and had not given a destination phone number on their booking. I don't know what was going to happen to the people he could not contact.

This is one area where airlines are the master of understatement.I have been fortunate enough on CX to twice being upgraded J to F.Both times it was-I hope you dont mind but we have upgraded you to first class. Now as if I am going to say-look here I paid for business class and thats what I am going to have.

excellent update on the upgrade option!! as I get closer to my departure date I'm hoping that as a full paying business class ticket holder and travelling on my own that I might be upgraded to first!! Although I sincerely doubt it as this is my first time flying with Malaysian!! - oh well...one can always dream!!

Flew QF10 LHR-MEL on Saturday; for several weeks the J & F fare buckets were showing low numbers or 0's, Standard Economy categories 0'ed out with only Y+ varying between 7 & 9. About a week ago all class buckets went to zero.

When boarding I noticed it was a Pacific configuration VH-OEI (14F, 64J & 265Y); all Y+ booked PAX who travelled were upgraded to Business.

Needless to say our upgrade requests from Y to J had been declined ... :-|

Though a great deal for the Y+ passengers!

Just how often do pacific birds end up on the kangaroo route?
