Best airports to be stuck in

Singapore, Hong Kong & Tokyo have good lounges to spend a few extra hours in case of a longer then usual delay.

I'm always quite happy to be delayed in the F lounge if I have no tight onward connections. :)

If I had be stuck anywhere MEL would do me, as there are a couple of very good lounges (EK & QF-F), and I could duck home if the delay was too long.

If my home airport is too tongue in cheek, the SIN would be my pick for the variety of things to see and do.

SIN and HKG would be my picks.

Being stuck in HKG is most likely due to typhoon threat, so that's a double-edged sword (but the terminal was supposedly built to withstand the fury of typhoons).

The LH First Class Terminal in FRA would be interesting, although being stuck in FRA would likely be because of Eurocontrol strike or snowstorm. People say being stuck in a snowstorm is hell, and let's face it - being stuck somewhere with a snowstorm is more likely to have you being stuck on the plane on the ground, rather than in an airport terminal. But if I got stuck in the FCT and it's frosty outside, at least there's about 60+ varieties of single malt to keep me warm (if I get that desperate).

I think the long and short of it all is that if you're going to be stuck at an airport, it's better to be stuck in the lounge than almost anywhere else.

If I didn't have any lounge access whatsoever, I think my pick would have to be SIN.

Lagos airport looks shady.

Truly, any of the airports would do provided I have access to their better lounges (with biergarten) and don't risk missing onward connections.

Like others said, with lounge access, being stuck isn't an issue.

Without it, Singapore is my pick too. I often feel disappointed my connections are so short there. I've slept in Lima airport 4 times now so can't complain with it either.

That Narita observation deck is new to me. Been through there numerous times and never had any idea!

Without lounge access (and I guess there is the premise in the article that one doesn't) then I also think SIN holds up pretty well, with butterfly garden, pool, food court, cinema, free internet terminals etc.

Some of the things in the article were stretching things a little....

Airports I've been to which I wouldn't mind getting stuck in (in no order):

MEL
BNE
OOL (Vlounge only)
PDX
SFO
NRT
AMS
CPH
HEL
LAX (Vlounge only)
SYD
HKG

I haven't been to SIN but am looking forward to it in February.

I predict SIN will be very high on your list ;)

News to me too! will have to check it out next time I am there. Have been stuck in HKG and it's definitely not the end of the world! I do however like the range of bars at SIN, which can make passing time a lot easier when there's no lounge access.

SIN
HKG

That's about it.

A handful of others are tolerable if you have lounge access, but without it? Not so much.

After scoring Cabana Room in The Wing last week being stranded in there would do nicely as would either Australian QF F Lounge:D.

No Lounge access I would look into a Pay In Lounge.

I was stranded in HKG airport but sadly arrivals side!!!! Not nearly as nice as being stranded departures side!

+1 to SIN

ICN has lots to do.

-Korean Cultural Museum
-Multiple Gardens
-Spa
-Golf Course
-Theater
-Skating Rink

That's just a few of the things available

I'll be stopping at ICN next month. Any hotel within airport or very close by?

I guess it depends if you are "stuck" airside or have access to the outside world. I've been "stuck" at EWR (Newark) for almost 24hrs having missed a connection to a daily flight, and found my way into NYC, booked a hotel and enjoyed the day. However it would be ghastly to be stuck airside at EWR. An hour before a flight there is more than enough! But if airside is the rule it would be the usual suspects ... SIN, HKG, ....
