Hi all
Is there an easy way to check which are the bassinet seats on my upcoming QF and BA flights? I requested them at booking and wantto check that they have been allocated. The flights are:

QF31 SYD-LHR 21 Oct seats - 11JK
BA15 LHR-SIN 11 Nov
QF6 SIN-SYD 12 Nov seats - 4AE

The 4AE I assume are bassinets either side of the cabin so I will look to change to 4B if I can...

Cheers

S

Thanks - looks like a couple of calls to make re the return trip. I tried MMB but I can not allocate the Bassinet position online. It does not look occupied though...

I assume Simongr will have a bub for these flights so shouldn't risk being bumped.

I don't know if this is a good time but I guess I had a couple of thoughts on flying with a baby. No direct experience with the bassinet as we only ever did domestic with a baby. But I observed some people trying to use a bassinet SIN-FRA. They seemed to have trouble with the seat belt and also lighting in getting the baby to sleep and not cry. All babies are different so YMMV, but at least with our kids we tried to not make them fussy sleepers - so normal house noise (TVs, friends talking, etc.)was maintained and didn't take extra steps to eliminate ambient light during the daytime sleeping. This might help with getting sleep on an aircraft. But I have no answers about the seatbelt in the bassinet, it seems a major potential disruption to a happy sleeping baby.

We also were pretty rigid with keeping the babies' routine. I don't mean enforcing a routine but knowing what the baby likes and trying to maintain that while travelling, it seemed help keep them relaxed and more likely to sleep at times rather then stay awake and get over tired and hence turn nasty.

Anyway, even child is an individual, and my experiences might be totally useless. I'm sure you'll have fun getting to know your own child. good luck

Thanks for that medhed - the baby is due in March so rest assured I will be seeking plenty of advice between now and then :)

more advice: watch the seatbelt on QF 747- it's very heavy and you don't want it to hit bub. It is easier if one person holds the seat belt while the second one puts the baby in and then you can put the seat belt back on over the top of the bassinet. Up until 6 months they should sleep very well in the bassinet. 6-10 they sleep OK but 11- it is hard for some babies to sleep as it is a confined space.

Bassinets on the A380 are narrower and have less air circulation so it is harder for little one to sleep.

I didn't realise they had bassinet seats in J - this is good to know, our baby is due in March also. Our current plan is to do a practice domestic holiday before going to UK/Europe, so maybe they will be too big for the bassinet by the time we get to this point.

Using the change table in the toilet domestically is a great experience. At home nappies were all done standing at the babies feet, get on the plane and the toilet change table is basically arranged sideways. kicking baby, wrong angle, number 2, slight bouncing - fairly funny...
