Based on your 2018 travels, you've earned (downgraded) to Silver

Hi all,

I just received an email from the Honors program that as of 1 April I will downgraded from Gold to Silver.

I am confused - I have previously (thought I) had a 1 January review. I was just short in # stays / nights to achieve Gold through 2018, but the system said that 2018 nights would rollover into 2019 and I would keep Gold. Accordingly, I have made a range of bookings with Hilton that will leverage that level of membership and strive to keep me at Gold for 2019.

I am confused as to why I would be dropped from Gold to Silver.

Your thoughts would be appreciated,

Hilton program counts Jan1 to Dec31 but status runs to end of March the following year.

The system just doesn't really display this well from Jan1 to March and many think they have been renewed.

"<serfty>, you've extended your Gold status!" ...

I achieved a two stay 'we miss you' challenge for Gold in January last year and so have had the status until March 2020 for the last 14 months.

I received same email. No stays in a few years but about to book 3 nights in Bangkok and lounge access would be nice way to end the day.

I have chatted with the bot/chat room online and they have confirmed I will drop to Silver on 1 April. I understand that they are following their T&Cs, no problems. But I was only 4 stays short in 2018 after 2-3 years of loyal custom, and on track for Gold again this year - so was hoping for an extension.
So I don't bear any ill will to Hilton, it just gives me cause to consider whether I switch my "loyalty" to another "loyalty program".

I haven't received an email so still have my fingers crossed but not really hopeful

I think you missed te point - in Jan 2018 I completed a challenge that gave me Gold Status until end of March 2020.

Exactly. The status that shows on, or a few days after, 1st April is the one that counts (i.e., after the 31st March review).

Update - so I rang the call centre as suggested by their on line chatbot. The call centre said send an email, so I did.

Despite having enough planning stays in the next 6 weeks to keep me at Gold, they will drop me to Silver:

"Hilton Honors reviews all Members' tier statuses March 31. We analyze all accounts to determine whether they qualified to maintain their status. If a Member's activity meets the requirements, we extend their tier status to the following March 31. If not, the status is adjusted to the appropriate level, effective April 1. "

Cheers Mark

Yes. It's the review on, or just after, 31st March that counts.

Edit: Then back to Gold soon after, in your case. HHonors is not known for bending the rules

One point if they bent the rules for you and retained gold for you it would be valid to March 31 2020. If you drop back and with the rolled over nights (in excess of 10) and coming stays, you get it back soon, it will be valid to March 31 2021.

Remember that it is not all that common for loyalty programs to take into account future booking, it’s either backsides in the seat, or head on the pillow that counts.

So do you think they may readjust this on 1st April or do you think I'm safe for this year.

You can't tell based on that.
Mine looks the same (albeit with a few stays this year and rollover nights) yet I got the Silver email
