Bangkok Millenium v. Conrad?

Having lived in Asia and worked there for years all over the place I can say there are no rules and if you have an air of authority about you, there are generally no issues

If you fancy waiting a bit there is also a Conrad Mini Bus which leaves from Phloen Chit station which stops on the Corner of Wireless Road
How often does the bus run?

It's really a tough choice (first world Problem really) :p

Note that a metered Taxi from the Airport to the Millenium should cost no more than THB400 (~$13), including the tolls that you pay yourself. To the Airport it's THB50 less.

Staying at the Millenium at the end of next week...any idea what the current taxi fare is ?

A couple of years ago you could by a fixed price taxi voucher at BKK for the city, do they still have these ?

Sorry completely missed this one

From memory it is supposed to be every 15 minutes but with traffic on both Soi Ruamrudee and Wireless often coming to a standstill it can take longer.

Taxi out the front will be 400-500B including tolls. ...
Wow! That's high - under normal conditions I would expect no more than THB350 from the Millenium and THB400 to the Millenium - including [-]tools[/-] tolls.

Having stayed at both hotels I prefer the Conrad. They act as though they really are top class hotel (and they are !). The Millennium, IMHO just seems to go through the motions.

Concur with needing the detailed drive way entry card for the taxi driver to get you to the Conrad. It is a confusing drive way.

I've had less than 350 getting to the airport (wireless road is not far from the express way entrance.)
But I've had just less than 400 I've rounded up the 20-30B
I've had a 2hr jam once that pushed it higher than 500B. But it was an entertaining drive with broken english conversations about rice farming, expensive wives & IT.
But that is another thread one day.

On my last visit I was happy enough with the Millennium albeit the location not the best and novelty of having to catch the ferry boat to get to skytrain wears thin after a few rides and taxis best avoided at peak times due to horrendous congestion. Looking forward to the soon to be opened Hilton on Sukhumvit for a stay before heading to Conrad Koh Samui for New Year Eve - but if I had to book for something sooner I'd consider the Doubletree right next door.

My last couple of times have been THB400-THB450. The raw fare is ~THB350.

I have just checked in to the Millenium and the taxi meter showed THB 270, with the tolls I gave the driver THB 400 and there were smiles and thank you's all round

I have decided to make a short trip to Bangkok this weekend from Singapore. Which Hilton Hotel do you guys recommend? This is my first time in Bangkok and any advise will be appreciated.

Really depends what you are interested in doing! For example the new Hilton Sukumvit (sic) is ideal for those who want to go shopping.

FWIW, I'm staying at Conrad Bangkok on Saturday night so will report back.

Check out the Hilton experiences thread as edison made a few good posts the other week.

I have booked the Conrad Bangkok too at this stage but the infinity pool at Millenium looks awesome. Which Hilton Experiences thread are you referring too? Mind posting a link? If I proceed with the Conrad Bangkok booking maybe we can catch up for a quick drink in the EL :).
