Hey folk, am thinking of around 5 or 6 days in BKK in a few months time. Preference is for Hilton Group accommodation. We appear to have 5 choices.

2 x Hilton, 2 x Conrad (hotel/residences) and 1 x Doubletree.

I haven't been to Bangkok for 25 years, and only had 3 x overnights there in between coughet, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai. I don't know what there is to see/do in BKK (went to Grand Palace, some markets, and a rather interesting establishment on Patpong Road, but I think that was it, and TBH so long ago it is like visiting for the first time. I may sidetrip to SIN as well, so there is unlikely to be time to get out of BKK to the Thai regions this trip.

So, what are peoples' accommodation recommendations (compelling reasons to stay outside of Hilton Group will be taken on board, but HH is a frontrunner at this stage). I am HH Gold.

TIA.

I like the Conrad. It's in a central-ish location, near a BTS (5min). Good hotel with a nice exec lounge that can double as dinner if that is your thing.

Pool area looks very nice but in December is too shaded and actually a tad cold

Also stayed at millennium Hilton which is ok but I wasn't there long enough to check it out, overnight stay only and was delayed on my inbound.

Conrad is very nice and near the centre (if Bangkok has a centre) on Wireless Rd
Doubletree and Hilton Sukhumvit are refurbished/ brand new and sit back to back (great for mattress run) but are a little bit (1-2 BTS stops) out of the centre, albeit still on busy Sukhumvit Rd and near the BTS
Milennium Hilton is on the river, so a bit slower paced

As a Gold am 3/3 for Exec Floor at Conrad.
Doubletree doesn't have a lounge.
Believe the 2 Hiltons do

We stayed at the Hilton not long after it opened. It was our first visit to BKK. Loved the view down on to the river, nice bars and restaurants, great infinity pool with loungers in the pool itself, beautiful antique ferries to take you across the river or down to the BTS. I don't have experience with the other properties.

I've stayed at all of the BKK Hilton group premises,

Conrad, simply awesone and they recognise status very well. It is a short (10 minute) walk from Sukhumvit Rd but not too far away. There is a shuttle bus but I've never bothered. Part of the same building has a supermarket for supplies if required.

Conrad residences, same as above but no access to lounge.

BTS Station Ploen Chit E2 for the Conrad then walk back towards E1 to the main intersection and go down the stairs left along Wireless Rd. The Conrad is on the left hand side and well sign posted.

Hilton Sukhumvit, I quite enjoy this hotel and the lounge has food and drink as required.

DT Sukhumvit, as mentioned right next door to the Hilton and they share staff. There is a happy hour (free regular drinks) at the poolside bar in lieu of lounge access. Directly opposite the front door is a genuine Thai massage school where you can get a very good massage quite cheaply.

BTS Station Phrom Phong E5 for both these hotels. For DT walk to Soi 26 and its down the road on your right. For the Hilton go to Soi 24 and its on your left.

Both of these hotels are very close to many massage places where you can er, have a happy ending.

The Millennium Hilton, well away from the city centre and frankly IMHO the worst of the bunch. I've tried this place a couple of times and never had a good experience, the staff are rude and generally don't seem to care. Also, it is well out of town and harder to get to. You take the BTS to Saphin Taksin S6 and then catch the ferry to the hotel.

Happy travelling.

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Hvr, I think you are HH Diamond? Wondering if a Gold would get access to the 'free drink's at the DT in lieu of a lounge (no deal breaker but would be nice to know)

moa999, were your 3/3 exec floor upgrades when Gold done from bog-standard base room bookings?

I have really enjoyed my few stays at Conrad SIN, so leaning that way. Will just have check all factors including this info here and price when we come to book.

Not sure, although since I'll slip back to gold in April I am sure I'll find out this year.

Cheers Hvr I should have worded my post better. I wasn't really expecting you to know for sure given you were Diamond at the time, just wondering out loud.

Pretty sure it was all basic rooms.
Think at DT I got a drink voucher but not usable at 1an

Only ever used the millennium ... as a gold or a as diamond i was always upgraded and always given executive lounge access.

Love the area and is a short quaint free boat ride to the BTS.

My favourite is Millenium Hilton but the new Sukhumvit Hilton and Doubletree are quite nice as well.

I have had lounge access and breakfast as a Gold in all hotels I mentioned above.

I have also had lounge access and breakast in Hilton Pattaya where the lounge views are stunning.

Just reporting back. Ended up at Doubletree, based primarily on price :)oops:) and had a perfectly good stay. As promised above, complimentary drinks from 5 till 7 (or was it 6 till 8?) for Gold and Diamond by the pool. Got a one-level room upgrade from the bog-standard one I booked (I am Gold), on a high floor. Not huge by any means but sufficiently sized. Breakfast selection was good, with a Western, Thai, and Japanese section. Staff were good enough, always polite etc.

Hvr, I saw the 'genuine' massage place, and about a hundred of the other type, including one on Soi 26 I had to walk past about 10 times a day on my way to/from Sukhumvit Rd. Every single time I would note some quick shadowy movement through the windows and then would hear sing-song lilting voices calling out to me after I was a few metres past the place. I decided one day to deliberately walk on the opposite side of the street to avoid the attention but it did no good. The door opened, a lady stuck her head out, waved across the street to me and sang out a cheery 'Hello Sir' just like we were old friends. :)

Your location instructions were spot on, though i turned right when I should have turned left after exiting BTS station - cost me ~200 metres and 5 minutes.

The Express train from BKK into the city was not running. I inquired 'just today?', and the answer sounded like 'five months' so worth keeping in mind. The stop all stations train was 45 baht (i.e. less than $2) and just fine, about 30 minutes to city to connect to BTS, though going back out to BKK was more problematic being peak hour and having it jam packed full of workers going home.

I did about zero 'tourist' things (was there three nights) but much carousing as I caught up with a couple of BKK-resident friends, one of whom was well acquainted with all the Sukhumvit area bars. I enjoyed the little sortie, and will be back there in January.

Thanks everyone for the hotel tips, have not made my mind up for next time - DT was just fine, but Conrad always has allure. Time will tell.
