Re: Baggage changes

Travel to MEL (domestic) after the arrival of minidoc (arrival soon, travel in March/April).

March/April is before the changes come into effect. The domestic piece thing starts 1 June.

Re: Baggage changes

I cant for the life of me work out what bags we can take any more!

Travel to MEL (domestic) after the arrival of minidoc (arrival soon, travel in March/April).

Both mrsdoc and myself are QFF Gold.

So we get travelling in Y:
? 32kg each (is this right)?

- provided the 32kg is in a single bag (each) and not say two bags each @ eg. 17+15kg.
- checked allowance for minidoc (? just the stroller carried FOC?) The stroller will be packed in it's own (purpose-designed) bag for protection, but I presume this isnt an issue?
- onboard allowance (unchanged from previous)
- is there an additional onboard allowance for minidoc

On the way home we're on a JASA but is the allowance the same, or more because in J?

If you're travelling before June, then the old baggage rules apply - 23kg + 10kg for Gold = 33kg. For the JASA it is 30kg for J class + 10kg for Gold = 40kg.

No allowance for infants on domestic flights, other than extra item for a stroller or the like.

Ok, that's great news.

So are the above allowances correct by weight (just not the piece restrictions?) or are we still on the old +10kg etc? Tix booked this year (FWIW).

Just fly JAL J class instead ... they allow 4 bags at 32kg each if you're Sapphire or above ;)

And despite measuring one of our pieces of luggage which was about 8 inches over the maximum, still put it through at no charge on both flights.

Unless shifting overseas permanently, who in their right mind would travel with 4 bags at 32kg each ??!!

If my assignment is to a cold climate then I'm usually up around that much.

With the Aussie dollar the way it is, 4 bags of shopping is not inconceivable!

lol ... we had 5 pieces between two of us, 1 being a car part, then 4 bags packed with cheap rum from the Caribbean, wine from Washington State, and lots of new clothes from the outlet malls! It's nice to know we still had some spare space for more just in case ;)

The new baggage allowances can be a little confusing but I will do everything I can to fit into the new allowances to avoid paying extra. Good to see that status has additional baggage allowance which in my opinion is more than adequate.

I wish my bathroom scales rounded down
My scales at home always round down ;) To the nearest 5kgs. :p

Anyone know what happened to JohnK's post that was replying to one of mine, and my reply to his post?
