Most of Emirates' services to Europe do not arrive until the afternoon.
Instead of the current 3.50pm departure from Sydney to Frankfurt via Singapore, arriving at 6.15am, Qantas passengers from next year wouldn’t arrive until 8.50am, with a stopover of three to four hours in Dubai, if they opt to take the Qantas-Emirates option.

Dubai deal shakes up Qantas network

There are a few assumptions in that article that make it worthless IMHO, for a start the route network and timings for both airlines is not yet set given is NHS next year, and assumes QF will simply keep the ex Aus departure times. Keeping the same times for QF does not make sense, they were designed for LHR connections, while under the arrangement, these will now originate in Dubai.

lol the fares arent even in the GDS yet, a bit early to be knocking the schedule times...

Qantas schedules to LHR / Europe

So, in light of this article, what would be the timings for QF1 / QF2 and QF9 / QF10 that people would like to see?

These are the only two sets of flights that QF will have some direct control over. For most part, we probably can't assume that EK will adjust their schedules. Also, I'm not sure how easy it will be for QF to move around its slot holdings at LHR if it decides to modify timings.

It seems largely based on the assumption that the current arrival times of the Qantas flights into LHR will be kept because they are 'business friendly'. But to keep those times will require a 2 or 3am departure from Dubai which I would not exactly call business friendly. Honestly do people expect to go to work the same day after arriving from a 20+ hour journey and a 10 hour time zone difference?

To me the more likely timings would be departure from Sydney at night, early morning arrival at DBX, midday arrival LHR or early morning departure Sydney, afternoon arrival DBX, night arrival LHR.

At least his article appears to be based on current 'fact'* rather than the rampant speculation and supposition that usually dominates similar AFF discussions.

* I'm not about to run off and check them.

I am very interested in the lay over time between flights, as I am interested in flying QF PE to Dubai, and then onto Newcastle or Glasgow with EK.

I do and have. Last time it wasn't work related but on arrival I hired a car, drove to Bath, had lunch, did a bit of shopping, drove back to south of London, had dinner with my cousins and went to bed around 10PM. I don't like to waste time.

Given that most pax for QF will be originating in Australia , the fact that it is 2am in Dubai is almost irrelevant, as far as most travellers are concerned it is either 6-9am in Australia or 10-11pm in London.

This article is probably way too early as schedules haven't been decided, but other than EK's Australia services, I doubt you'd see many/any EK schedule changes suit the two QF flights.

I would not be at all surprised to see the QF services timings stay as they are - and would serve EK's earlier wave services from 2-5am that currently do not have connections from SYD/MEL on EK. These includes services to LGW, LHR, MXP, FRA and CDG, (and no doubt additional services to other parts of Europe which are probably a part of EK's expansion plans), as well as parts of the Middle East.

QF can solve these connections problems by odering a number of Boeing 777-300ER and fly themselves to a number of European destinations!
