My wife and I have 4 legs with BA in February. 2 X Int and 2 X Dom in GB. My ticket is in 'D' class on QF and my wife's is 'U' class though I'm not sure of how these translate with BA.

I have allocated seating as requested however BA won't allocate seating to my wife. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get seats allocated or is it simply not possible?

Are the two itineraries linked? I believe if you phone BA you can link the two itineraries and then allocate seats. i assume your wief has no status? I was QF SG and wife had no status but we were on the same itinerary and I was able ot allocate her seat next to me.

I presume that one of you has status and the other does not and that you are in separate PNRs.

If so , then there is nothing that you can do. If you were in the same booking then , since one of you has status, then you would both be able to select seats. Being in separate bookings then the person with no status is ineligable for seat pre-selection

Linking the bookings , as suggested above, will not assist since this does not make a difference with the new seating policy. The only way round is to rebook such that you are both in the same PNR

Thanks simongr & Dave,

I've pushed this as far as I can and am where Dave has suggested. I can't rebook as one is a company business and the other on FF points. QF have been very good and we have been given great seats for all the QF sectors however BA won't even talk or answer emails. I guess I'll just hang on to my good seats for now and hope they've taken the hint.

I would suggest making sure that you make use of online check in at T-24 to ensure that you get seats together

First BA checkin is in HK for an 0110 departure. I was thinking an early morning (morning before) in town checkin would be best. How far ahead is it possible to Checkin at Central in HK?

Second one will be in Edinburgh for Bos via LHR so I suspect options are limited there. About 6 hrs before the Int leg is about as good as is possible.

The above link indicates ITCI can be done from "from one day in advance to 90 minutes before take-off". Anecdotal evidence indicates this means you can check in the day before your flight (or in practice up to 48 hours prior).

I am not sure what effect this will have on seating/availability/preference/selection if you are able to check-in for your BA flight more than 24 hours beforehand.

BA is not listed as being an airline that allows check in a day in advance

Code:
The following airlines allow check-in one day prior to departure:

 Aeroflot
 Cathay Pacific Airways
 China Airlines
 Dragonair
 Mandarin Airlines
 Qantas Airways
 Singapore Airlines
 South African Airways
 Swiss International Air Lines
 Thai Airways International PCL
 Vietnam Airlines
