That is a big plus for me. I too think it looks different, similar seat fabric though.

I like the extra's that make the seat more functional, like the drawer and bigger table. They have obviously lost some windows for the TV unit, which might crowd the cabin a bit, not sure how it will work with isle seats??

A work colleague flew SYD-BKK on friday night, and said the new J seats were installed... I thought this might be a little quick..... anyone else seen them?

I hadnt really checked these out before - they do look somewhat different - but at the same time still look the same :/

I have a May booking and the seat maps (E/F & BA MMB) do not correspond to any generally published plan.

I guess it's one of the new configurations.

I would call them version 1a rather than 2. They are exactly the same configuration, and style. FWIW the following +ves and -ves

The Good
  • More comfortable, with a softer bed
  • Better tray table arrangement, not outl of the armrest that is.
  • Finally!! additional storage drawer, good for small notebook etc
  • 3 Pin power outlet, so you don't need an adaptor
  • Longer bed
  • Arm rests go down with the bed, so it is not so narrow, this is a big improvement
  • Better privacy screen when travelling alone (or wishing you were:mrgreen: )
  • AVOD entertainment
  • Lighter colours, so the upper deck looks more open and spacious
  • Now on the upperdeck, 62A&K, 64A&K, have no surround for the foot stool, so extra length. Previously only 64K. Same for the lower deck 14A&K, 20 A&K.
The not so good
  • The AVOD control is near your right shoulder, so a bot awkward to use
  • Not that stable caompared to version 1. Person behind and beside can easily make the suite shake when moving about or adjusting the foot stool. This was very frustrating with the person behind me constantly adjusting etc.
  • Surfaces not that durable. I believe many surfaces will look tired and worn quickly, a lot of painted silver finish, that seems to mark easily. The plastic dividing screen on my seat was already scratched
  • Tray table is supported on one side only, so it flexes quite a bit at the other end
All in all, well improved, still my preference over the QF skybed.

I just had my first flight on the New Club World LAX-LHR on Thursday night. I have to say, this is really my new favourite business class seat.

I got lucky, I think, as I was expecting the old-style seats, so it was a very pleasant suprise when boarding.

The new seats are great (whereas the old seats were good, but not wide enough for comfort). They have 4 very comfortable pre-set settings. Take off is no longer in the upright position, but slightly reclined.

The divider between the seats is excellent - much better than the old fan.

The AVOD works flawlessly (unlike the AVOD on my QF SYD-LAX flight). Choice of movies was excellent.

The colours in the cabin are nicer than they were.

The new amenities pack are cute - brown tweed - very English. (nb the new QF ones are very cheap looking - I am generally a fan on Mark Newson design, but not this plastic case). Molton Brown are still inside - which I like. Eyeshades are great. You will need to ask for a shaving kit.

So anyway, it was only a 10hr flight. After dinner & movie, I had 5 hours of sleep - the most comfortable I have ever had on a flight in BC. I wanted to try out "the larder", so I forced myself awake, and watched another movie, and fed myself, before landing.

In all, it was an excellent flight. The new seats are great. I really, really like QF J, but this is so much better.

I flew SYD - SIN in Club World a couple of weeks ago and was not particularly impressed. There was no separate queue for First and Club World boarding. The purser in the Club World cabin hardly cracked a smile for the whole flight and acted like everything was just too much trouble for her and life would be so much easier without passengers. The attendant spilled a whole glass of Kir Royale over me - luckily I was wrapped in the new "plush cotton quilt" at the time which took the impact - but then the purser told me that there were no more quilts so I would not be able to have a replacement. (The attendant did rustle up another one from somewhere eventually). Food was ok, not better than that. At least the AVOD worked, unlike on the QF return flight.

I met some BA people at a conference at the weekend and got a run through of the new seats/cabin/amenities etc - all looked very good to me. I'm looking forward to sampling it in a couple of weeks (JFK-LHR) so I'll post an update then.

I forgot about the quilts - they are really nice. So are the pillow. I flew regular Club World last night from LHR to Cairo, and it is still good (screens tiny tho), but it really reminded me that the new Club World is so much better.

The small screens are just an unfortunate feature of a few aircraft. Most have full size screens

I thought those screens seemed small. I just did the return CAI-LHR yesterday (old club world), and the screens were the larger size. However, the screens in the new club world seem a size bigger again.

SQ 77W and EK A345 have nice large screens - SQ screen in F on 77W is almost too wide. NZ 777 and 747 aren't too bad either.
