Ill be in T5 very soon for 6 hours waiting for my connecting flight and I want to know peoples opinion of which lounge they preffer north or south??? And what the showers and bathrooms are like between the 2 of them???

I would wait at the one closest to my gate (even allowing that you're there for 6 hours). I think South is a little larger and more 'open' but they're both fine, nothing compelling enough to make me wait at one or the other based on anything but proximity to my gate. Haven't used the showers at either.

Given you're there 6 hours, maybe you can check them both out (and report back :) )

I prefer South. Not a huge margin between them. Shower facilities are identical.

I turned right after security and was pleasently surprised over the usual standard QP...

Showers were on the level below and were a little more cramped than at most QPs i seem to recall... The water is hot as i managed to scold myself in a rush in one... You would think by my age i would have learnt how to use a shower... :)

As Serfty said above. Turn left after security, they have the bacon rolls ready to go. Yummy!Right is OWS + and a OWE Lounge. I only had about 40 minutes so l didn't really take a close look at both lounges. Both seemed very nice though. Enjoy.

I have never even thought about going left after security... I'm always drawn to the right  Showers are alright but prefer the ones in T3 to be honest. The T5 ones are starting to show they have been used a lot.

Will test the South lounge next time I am flying through.

Business Class/SG/QP? then Either

First Class/WP? then South
One faces East after passing security.

North is LEFT!

South is RIGHT!

Cheers for that Serfty. I didn't know which way was up. I've only been in the lounges between 7:30 - 8:45 AM so l can't comment on how the food offerings go throughout the day. All the best OP.

Thanks for that serfty, now I can say I have never been to the North lounge :D maybe will try them next time but if the general idea is that South is better might stick to that.

Expanding this discussion slightly: and how do the two compare with T5B Lounge? ... and if your flight is designated to be leaving T5C (where there is no lounge) which of the 3 Lounges is the better to wait in?

BD

Waitaminute... When I go through security at T5 I can only turn right if I can access the concorde room. I have to turn left, traipse through the terminal, down an escalator, back through the Terminal, up an escalator and then turn left into the F lounge.

Has this changed?

So if you turn right go through the terminal down an escalator up an escalator you get to the Flounge and Concorde room and Spa and then if you go up one more escalator you get to the J lounge... right? South that is...

Perhaps some of my confusion might be that I am entering the Terminal from the F check in at the south end of the Terminal...

I have only done this via Transit from T3.
After the bus from T3 and up the escalators to security;
1) Go through security/x-ray, turn right.
2) Walk about 50-60m (past a few shops) and you'll see escalators, go UP.
3) When you get to the top of the escalators, turn right 90 degrees, then; you can either turn left (Emerald) or right (Sapphire) lounges.
4) CCR, l have no idea.

I was only in the South Lounge 10 minutes, l was in the North for ~30-40 minutes having a few beers at 8am.
I don't know about the 5B Lounge.

If you need to transit from 5A to either 5B or 5C, takes about 10-15 minutes, depending on train arrival. The terminal train comes every 5 or 10 minutes and takes about 2 minutes to 5B and another minute to 5C. I departed from 5C. When you get out of the terminal train at 5C, there is an elevator and escalators. BA also had priority boarding and it was enforced. I was even refused, but after l saw l was a QF WP, l was allowed and the BA FA apologised. I said, 'No problem, it's early'. ;)

There are signs everywhere, so it's very easy to find your way around. I would say that it's about as easy as SIN. Very easy to navigate 5A.
If in doubt, ask someone, l'm sure they will help you out.

Here's a map (see page 2):

The Concorde room entry is directly to the right of the South Security.

To access the First lounge (not Concorde) from here, one must go down escalators run the shopping gauntlet to the South and come up again.

From the North Security, all must head right for First/Concorde. Galleries North, Galleries South and T5B are all business class lounges.
