BA first or QF business ?

Evening all, would you choose BA First to LHR or QF Business on the A380 ? I've travelled BA First before but not on the A380 - BA business is just not that comfortable with the weird forward and rear facing configurations compared to QF business. (Not much difference in price.)

Where are you travelling from? I would choose BA first as on QF you're going to get the dated MKII droopbed. Also as not sure on your status but you'll get access to the first lounge in Sydney with the BA flight (if you're not already a WP) whereas QF will be the business lounge.

If it's SCs you're after then QF will give you 40 more (return) when travelling in J compared to BA F from SYD.
 
We choose to fly BA F from SYD-SIN.But it is a 773.Not a great F cabin but it is better than QF J.And on that route usually cheaper than QF J.
But we do this as I have switched to BAEC as my primary loyalty program as easier to get to OWE than with QFF with the travel we do.
 
Have only ever done BA first on their 747's - and would rate a latest QF J product higher in the hard product. But on their A380's no idea.

But at the end of the day it is not a painful choice to make :)
 
I'd echo Dr Ron's comments. I have flown the full 773 SYD-LHR-SYD (I just landed in SYD from one yesterday) in F twice this year and twice splitting the journey - 773 to SIN and A380 to LHR. It has been a while since I flew F on the BA 747 but did fly LHR-NRT in F on the BA787 last year and it was pretty decent....although the buddy seat has gone.

I consider BA F a huge step up from QF J on the 330, 747, and 380 but I don't consider myself a frequent flyer like many here.

I'll be a lone voice, but after 40 segments in QF F over three years on the A380 I don't see a huge difference between it and BA F on their A380.

I have a BA F segment from LHR to ORD on their 747 in August, the day after another 773 F SYD-LHR :eek:, so will report back on that. Hopefully it will be a refurbed cabin.

I would be going for BA F over QF A380 J. Sure its not the best F in the world, but it is definitely better than the A380 business.
 
BA F over QF J any day of the week, especially if:
  • QF J is on the A380 and the very tired/outdated Skybed II, and
  • It means getting into either the Mel or Syd QF Flounge. Enormous step up from the J Lounge.
I've flown BA F SYD-LHR on 777 and 747 - probably prefer the 747 over the 777 but very curious as to how BA F in the A380.

Also flown LHR-SYD in QF J & F
 
From the comments from the other (reliable) posters I am left wondering if I have confused my recollections. Have done BA in J lots, so maybe I am thinking their ancient old clunky J product. I last flew them in F last month, but now cannot remember much (was sandwiched in between many other flights)

In any case, I retract my first post and leave this in the hands of those who have far more recent experience :)

Assuming you're travelling Australia to LHR.... Choose BA F over QF J, BA's A380 is very good but I'm also a fan of the B777 if you get the right seat. You'll get the QF F lounge at SYD and the BA CCR at LHR, which of course are very pleasant ways to commence 24-hour flights. Noting the resident from East Cheam's observation above, I cannot really separate the overall QF F and BA F products on the A380 and it was an eye opener when I reached that conclusion. QF is a better sleep, BA has better wines and spirits. BA food is not as good (well the entrees and mains aren't but they do a good cheese course). QF crew is usually better but when you get a good BA crew then they are outstanding.

There's a lot of old guff written about BA F. I enjoy it; stylish and understated. Just don't order the beef for main course.
 
I now personally refuse to fly on the Skybed II as I find it a really uncomfortable seat/bed - I never understood the fuss and I’ve avoided QF J for years as a result. I’ve only done J BA from Sydney and that was average at best and the only BA F I’ve done is on a 787 (which was better but nothing to die for). So I’d go BA F over the Skybed II. BUT the new QF J product on the 330 and 787 I love and I like the food/service much better and the 380s are getting refurbed with them soon and then I’d go QF J all the way (but if QR J was in the mix...)

A couple of months back, booked BA F (BNE-LHR) via SYD with BNE-SYD in QF J for less than booking QF J. QF F was way over the top. BA F is on 15/16, so 777 the whole way.

Did this after much research and watching, then got a real surprise when booking (via AMEX online, to use a travel credit), when for some strange reason it offered QF2 (in F) for the final leg SIN-SYD at no different cost to the BA flight. Jumped on that - both to do a back-to-back comparison (come off BA15 LHR to SIN straight on to QF2), and for the extra SC and points. Crediting to QF, BA F LHR-SYD (or v/v) gives 210, but BA F LHR-SIN gives 180, plus another 180 for QF F SIN-SYD, not to mention the points earn gain.

Not flying this until July, so will also experience the updated BA F soft product, which may swing the balance some more.
