How much should the cash upgrade be for a London-Paris flight?

Economy fares can be as low as STG98 and Business STG324. Normally the cash upgrade after booking I know is supposed to be much less than buying outright initially.

There are a couple of UK resident member who may know more about this but I believe these are not always offered.

It depends on various factors such as seats sold etc.

I think it should be less than BGP70 as its very short. I'm not sure but if you look for a POUG (Proactive Online UpGrade) on FT there is heaps of info on these.

POUG's I believe book into U class these days (once upon a time it may have been a revenue bucket) so only advantage LON-PAR is a bigger seat for the shoot flight.

No if its sold in advance its mileage earning I class. I did one a month or two ago

I am not sure, but have booked Y a few times on BA LHR-CDG, and the option to upgrade has always been there and has been much less than originally booking in J
CAUTION
The very cheapest fares on BA LHR-CDG are often carry on only, so it pays to read the terms carefully.
BA will not give the third bag free it you are making a stand alone booking in Y even if you are WP (I am not sure if the paid upgrade to J addresses this issue)
It is short haul Club Europe on BA, most of these BA planes have 8 to 10 rows of J seats, a sort of curtain separates the J from Y, check the seating on the plane you want to take, if row 8 is showing as Y try to select it, it is probably the J type seat, which to be honest, isn't that great, nor is Club Europe as such. Rather than upgrade, I would rather spend the money on something else, it is such a short flight.

That what it used to be, but I have come across U class references more recently.

I'll check ...

mmm, there is some talk of it on the BA forum but it seems that if you credit to BAEC you will get the upgraded TP's/miles even if in U class

Looks like they are booking into U class now:

Pro-active Upgrade cost tracking thread - Page 195 - FlyerTalk Forums

Just to let everyone know, POUGs for European flights are apparently always booked into U class now, not I or R. U is used for business class redemption bookings. This started at the beginning of March for internet bookings. Some phone POUGs may still go into I during this transitional period. The lady I just spoke to just now said she wasn't sure if these would now auto-credit with BAEC, or if they would earn miles at all. (Can anyone confirm or deny?)

If you are earning with an airline partner you probably won't earn miles/points.

QR just told me that a U class ticket was non-earning, irregardless of if it was paid in cash or miles.

I just spent an hour getting my new POUG "U" ticket moved back to a closed economy class. Rather stressful, but managed in the end with the help of the excellent agent on the phone.

56 quid each way was a price someone recently reported.

Not sure about the new class. Has been a while since I had one. You can also sometimes get them done at the airport if you ask at check-in.

Was thinking about one of these for June... perhaps not now, though didn't see JTR listed in that thread anyway.

Keep in mind that if you book a return flight, the business class flight might not be that more expensive; as an example, I'm looking at LHR-MUC return, economy at the times I want to fly is about 111 pounds each way in Y vs 160 pounds each way in J. Seems cheap for 40 SCs vs 10 SCs.

Yes how inconvenient. I would have thought the train would be the go.

sure if you are in central london going to central paris. However if you are in Paris and flying BA through LHR to say North America then flying makes sense. Not to mention the large populations outside central London for going to Heathrow or Gatwick or Luton is a lot closer.

Hi
Does anyone have any firm recent experience about whether these paid BA upgrades do (or can) receive QFF SCs for the original paid economy ticket?
(For me its LHR-IST originally in Discount Economy reticketed to U. Would cross me over from PS to SG. Otherwise would need to find another 20SCs somewhere else which seems a waste of time & $$ if not needed)
Thanks

The train can be very rewarding if you know someone living in the UK.

Apparently TESCO nectar points can redeem super low cost rtn tickets to Paris -so no status credits etc your door-to-door time and cost is hours less and 1/3rd cost (transport to/from LHR etc).

Also handy for those who have a habit of miscalculating times etc - no multi-hour pre-trip arrival so able to do day trips that actually leave time for the city compared with the airport terminal.
