BA book cheap Y then cash upgrade to J after booking

Hi
Does anyone have any firm recent experience about whether these paid BA upgrades do (or can) receive QFF SCs for the original paid economy ticket?
(For me its LHR-IST originally in Discount Economy reticketed to U. Would cross me over from PS to SG. Otherwise would need to find another 20SCs somewhere else which seems a waste of time & $$ if not needed)
Thanks

Yes it has been changed a couple of months ago and now ends up in U. I have no experience with Qf since the change but it still credits to BA fine. Hopefully someone has a recent Qf experience.

I called BA who thought it should credit something to QFF but likely to be Discount Economy SCs. Suggested I speak to QF which I did. The QF rep apoke to a supervisor-they have put a note on my account and suggested I contact them after the flight comes up on my activity statement. If (as expected) no SCs/points they have told me they will sort it out at (presumably at Discount Economy rates) . Pretty helpful I thought.

My paid BA upgrade (LHR-IST Discount Economy to Business) did credit automatically to QF as Business last month

Flew CDG-LHR at the end of Oct on a paid upgrade (€79 prior to day of departure) credited automatically to QFF as J (20SC). Base fare one way was €60. Neither the original booking eTicket or upgrade eTicket shows booking class!

A bit pissed, I had seen previous articles stating that the upgrade offers were only made on return bookings. I had already booked LHR-AMS (ret J/Y-) to take advantage of a 'cheap' J fare (£120) back to Europe but with the expectation that I'd end up not using the AMS-LHR sector that is currently sitting out in Aug 2015.

These would have been nice SC earners pre-simplification :-(

So QF can still get J SCs on these flights but I gather not BA Exec Club?

My understanding is that they have always credited fine as business TP/Avios to BAEC. BA confirmed this when I called but were not able to confirm that they would definitely credit as business to other OW programs. Conversely, I don't recall anyone saying they hadn't been given them (only that there was concern that they might not).

I have just come back from several BA flights, all booked in ET and then POUG to CE from LHR to ARN, LGW to JER and LHR to SOF. All costing about £79 to POUG (the JER flight was a bit cheaper). All credited the next day to QF as per the new SC chart. They were booked as I and U from memory, I don't know why the two different booking classes. The only difference now is you have to wait 48 hours to see if BA offers POUG and how much it is , this is so you can't cancel the ticket if you don't like the POUG price. It is still a great way to earn SC.

Success here too. Flew HEL-LHR last night on a POUG, received the SCs and points this morning...

These credit to BA fine. Note that BA have recently changed how things are done, and previous history of upgrade acceptance can influence the cost and likelihood of receiving an offer. Current rates are much higher than what has been historically offered (some routes are up £50 one way).

Do they track by name, or BAEC membership, or any oneworld membership number, or all of the above?

I don't know. One of their new T&Cs indicates:

Promotional upgrades are intended for use on occasional basis, and therefore are not offered to customers every time they travel. A variety of factors, including seat availability, ticket type and prior take up of promotional upgrades will affect whether a customer is selected to participate in the promotional upgrade offer.

On the 3 BA flights we're doing, I have myself on one PNR (OWE) and my family on a different booking (all QF Bronze). We've all had offers at the same time, prices seem to vary slightly depending whether the base booking has baggage included or not.

I also tried a check-in upgrade for my wife and kids on the HEL-LHR flight. This was about 25 euro cheaper than the POUG offer, but still not worth it for a less than 3 hour flight.

Do the check-in upgrades earn J SCs?

Interesting...
I have a BA booking where one of the flights is 15SC vs 60SC for the Y - J upgrade, BA website shows that the price difference for fares is only 30GBP...
But, when i go to MMB to upgrade with cash - it says - "Sorry, it is not possible to change this booking on ba.com. Please call your local British Airways office to change this booking."
It this an indicator of my likely sucess????
Cheers
