Unless I'm going crazy, I believe there's been a British Airways A380 parked at the northern end of a runway at MEL since (at least) September.

Does anyone know why?

Emirates' two flights to MEL land in the morning but don't depart until the evening. Can't stay at a gate all that time.

If you only ever went through HND during the day, you might think that Qantas keeps a 747 parked there doing nothing for months on end (with QF25 normally arriving at 5am and QF26 normally departing at 10pm with the aircraft being parked at the remote bays near the hangers across from the international terminal the entire time the airports domestic flights are around. It almost always uses bay 903, 904 or 905 [904 in this image])
