They are already the most expensive option to Europe and now 200 extra per person. Why bother flying with them? I've given up on QF and will burn all remaining miles ASAP. I've already stopped flying with them domestically so once all my miles are cashed in they will be at the same level of preference for domestic flights as tiger.

I still think QF points have a place but QF it certainly working hard in pushing them toward the bottom.

Was there even an email where these changes were announced? It seems flights to the States are unaffected? Assume same deal ie no additional tax with RTW flights routing in the easterly direction?

this has really made travel fairer and simpler!!!

$200 surcharge... now well and truly easy to choose another airline.

all that's going to happen will be that the base airfare will drop to almost zero, because otherwise no one is going to fly. why would you if QF is $300-400 more than top class competitors?

A surcharge on a surcharge?

Seriously Qantas this is your best response to the issues you are facing?

With the imminent demise of mASA's and now this - I may just go back to concentrating on burning my QFF points on upgrades.

However, I am certainly considering strategies for more earn on other programs.

I mean even now, a Business transpacific award between east coast Oz and West coast USA is 192K QFF points and $800+ in +++ compared to 188K Velocity points and $135.

I wonder if my customers would be happy if I just added surcharges to the invoice instead of the base amount.

What a joke.

Same. Once I make once last redemption and get my balance to zero I will get rid of the QF credit cards and use Amex MR combined with a velocity card for non-Amex purchases.

Don't be silly.

Peak day of week fare surcharge

Qantas and Emirates will also apply a weekend travel surcharge for tickets issued in Australia as follows:
•A surcharge of $25 will apply for all outbound travel from Australia on Fridays and Saturday on routes across the joint network (excluding Singapore, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur).
•A surcharge of $25 will apply for all outbound travel from Australia on Saturdays and Sundays (Qantas operated services) and on Fridays and Saturdays (Emirates operated services) for travel to Thailand.

While we are at it, weren't we talking about grammar in another thread?

According to the kids at Qantas, "Peak day..." = Friday and Saturday (or Saturday and Sunday).

Remember what someone said at some nice lunch a while back: "Simpler, fairer .... (SUCKERS!) "

Wonder if we can cobble up 5% of QF shares and call an EGM at QF...

Lol.. just saying...

Yes, they kick in straight away.
I guess Qantas must have a serious allergy to customers who are already trying their best to fly with them in spite of the recent FFP devaluations.

Where is RedRoo in all this????
RedRoo: I'm disappointed in your management. We weren't even notified of this personally. If the aim is to alienate us, well done.

I suspect over the coming 2 or 3 years Qantas's FFP Points liability will diminish to an all time low as more and more people, myself included seek to burn our existing points and switch to an alternative FFP!

It's fast becoming a race to see how quickly we can cut our losses and get out.

Will continue to fly Qantas where price permits but I won't be paying extra to fly them!

Off I go to AA & USDM for future points accrual!

Tony A and Bill S don't have to pay these, of course, in the end we are paying for their travel. Business Class no less, lounge usage no less.
Its us mugs through our taxes that pay for Tony A and Bill S to travel Australia and the world, blahing all over...
That is what irks me come later today, that the Fed Budget is being laid out full metal jacket, the major political parties themselves don't pay for the travel of the PM and the Opposition Leader, we pay for them.
Bah humbug... their goes my rational relationship with QF, down the loo.

It's all about small, incremental change. A bit here. A bit there. And before you know it ....,,.
I suspect in a few months another small charge for something else will surface. Let's wait and see .

As a person attempting to continue my long time loyalty to QF they are making it progressively more difficult. I will now commence the process of determining which alternative international carrier and frequent flyer program to support as a back up. I, like many other QF supporters, am increasingly becoming very disappointed with QF - which apparently does not concern them.

Tried booking EK (qff award) a simple 5.5 hour award in business MUC-DXB. The YQ is $420! That's one way for a flight less than 6 hours. Stuff that! Now they want more
