It seems I have reluctantly joined the many on here who are having issues with reward flights. I am flying MEL to MCO and return all on points and all under the same booking number. Have discovered today that the LAX - MCO flight with American Airlines has disappeared from my itinerary, wasn't informed, just happened to notice it was not there! Have been on the phone with Qantas today (flight is in two weeks) and had great difficulty understanding the person I was talking with. She seemed very determined to cancel the award flights and book me 'commercial', by 'commercial' I am assuming she meant a paid fare but I could not clarify this with her as she did not seem to understand. I made it very clear I did not want the flights cancelled!!

At this point in time I while I am far from thrilled I figure I can book a domestic flight from LAX to MCO and just kiss the points for that sector goodbye. My only worry with this is would that have any impact on my return fights from MCO to LAX to MEL? Can any of you good folks share their wisdom and shed some light on this. I do plan to call again but it is a bit of a worry when the person on the other end of the phone obviously has so much difficulty understanding you.

If it has indeed been cancelled the ticket would need to be reissued without that sector. You could get it included again if they’re gonna play around with the ticket anyway.

Thanks so much for your replies, very much appreciated. This is the first time I have ever booked flights using points - it may well be the last, thinking that using them for an extremely expensive toaster is looking like far less effort and worry right about now!

It seems as a result of the call yesterday I have been sent an E-ticket Flight Itinerary and Receipt would I be correct in assuming that is now a valid ticket and I don't need to do anything else?

I have played around with different routes to use points to get from LAX to MCO and can't find anything and to be honest would rather just be done with it and book a domestic leg while the seats are there and the timing works.

Thanks again good people.

so is your new ticket just to LAX or to MCO? A little confused. One wonders how LAX-MCO dropped from your itin in the first place. I wonder if AA cancelled the flight but even if so you should have been rebooked). how annoying!

The new ticket is everything except the LAX-MCO leg. That leg the flight time was changed (flight number has remained) and my guess is it dropped off then. I am thankful I noticed it in time to at least do something. Yes, it is annoying!!
