Award booking frustration

I'm trying to make an award booking from HKG to YVR next year around June/ July for two adults. When I attempt to make the booking for two (flexible with dates), I am told there is no availability and to look at alternate dates. When I make a dummy booking as a single passenger, there are seats available on over 20 of the 30 days listed. I find it hard to believe that all of these seats available are single seats only and unavailable to a travelling couple. Is there something I am missing here?

I have thought about making two separate single person bookings but am worried about booking one seat and there not being availability afterwards.

Would appreciate some thoughts on this.

Reward availability on Cathay and Qantas is pretty cough in general. It's quite possible that there is only one seat available.

On another note I just rang up to check availability on QF1 for a family member. Not a single seat available in Business in April, May or June. Glad I switched to Virgin/Etihad!

Qantas doesn't always show award availability with partner airlines on line. Have you called them to check availability?

I haven't called, so maybe talking to an employee will deliver an answer. What doesn't make sense to me is that I have been able to dummy nook two seats before on the same route at an earlier date so I know they can release more than one seat. Seems strange also to release one seat on 20 out of 30 days and not two on any. Hopefully the call centre has some answers. Thanks for your help.
