re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Would really depends where I was going, how long I had, would the o/night flight give me more time there or a better connection etc.

MH J in 333 is fine. I'm flying that on Thursday.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Here's a left field question- would you rather an MH 333 J day flight or AI 787 J overnight?

AI 787 is a full flat bed. The food is not adventurous... it's simple in presentation, but is tasty enough. The champagne is chilled and the service is friendly enough. Sure the meal on MH might be better, but that lasts for a few minutes while you're eating. The rest of the time wouldn't you rather be stretched out? AI also carries PJs from time to time, but not guaranteed.

Of course it depends on the overall routing for context, but assuming you are travelling from / via DEL, a direct overnight service with AI 787 would be my preference. I found their J class catering okay for my tastes and the lie flat bed and general cabin is quite spacious and comfortable.

Nearly choked when I initially read this...thought you said "Safety"

MH have quite a good reputation for safety it seems. JB747 said he'd fly them over SQ, if that means anything to you. Means a lot to me.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Interesting twist on the screenshot method in that I was able to go "across classes".... sent them the individual flights in J only to be told they couldn't be combined, but they then accepted a Y routing that came up via the online engine as "proof" that the J routing was acceptable. Points to some nice possibilities using LH F if it sticks around.

That's very interesting. Someone should try a F + J request!

I don't get how you can go from incumbent's experience to thinking that a mixed classes request will work.

I think it's pretty clever (and somewhat puzzling on LM's side) to show that a routing is permissible by showing it can exist in another class of service.

Out of curiosity, what was the routing that they say can't be combined? It's good for us to know where the limit is with the screenshot method. Thanks.

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

May 23... are there different types of 772?

View attachment 60176

There are different types of 772! Especially the ex CO birds which are two class only (Version 3 in the seat map link below). Then there are domestic versions of the 772 with first class which is/was essentially the old business class with a 2-3-2 configuration. Those have been known to operate services across the pacific including from GUM.

Fleet details here: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/content/travel/inflight/aircraft/777/200/default.aspx

Is this a good/best value option to go SYD - LHR for October 2016.

SYD - BKK using life miles in J with TG.
BKK - LHR using QFF award in J with CX via HKG.

Happy for others to suggest better value options.

Thank you.

it's 'ok' value, probably the AU-BKK being the best given high Aussie fares. For the rest it depends if you have another use for your points and how much the taxes fees and charges will be.

Ex Asia you can get business class return on airlines such as Sri Lankan, Vietnam airways or even Finnair and Qatar (when the latter have sales) in the region of AUD2100-2300 return.

those airlines have full flat beds, will give you full flexibility on dates, and Sri Lankan will even earn you qantas points and SCs.

The funniest part about that is that if you only wanted to go to Europe, this is cheaper than doing a bona fide booking - you just have to drop the last sector, which may or may not be difficult depending on how you handle it all.

I assume you can't use screenshots to book flights that are blocked by LM to begin with e.g. SIN-SYD in SQ J?

Others have reported success with this if you can screen shot something like SYD-SIN-xx_ and ask to book SYD-SIN only; however getting SYD-SIN-xx_ to show up online is extremely difficult if not impossible. (it worked for a while with SYD-SIN-DUS and BNE/MEL-SIN-KUL)

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

i just received an email saying my 120,000 pts are set to expire 31/12/15 - if i purchase more, does this reset the timer? i didn't mean to hoard them and can't really find anything for the dates i want at the moment but equally don't wish to forfeit... any advice please?

yes purchase 1000 points and this will reset your activity and give you another 2 years.

otherwise make a redemption and this will extend your points too.
