re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

For those who already got an existing booking, I remember reading somewhere, even if TG is willing to rebook you to an earlier flight to make connection possible, LM won't reissue the ticket if the new connection time is > 8hrs as it's against their routing rule. Let us know how it goes.

Didn't think of that, but that would be a bummer! Thought I'd get it changed to the 10am flight out of SYD, but then the connection would be 8:30 hrs. Any experience with TG being able/willing to change the destination i.e. FRA instead of MUC? Because that's the ultimate destination anyway (means I have a separate LH MUC-FRA ticket which I can now likely throw away as well).

Also just noticed there was a minor change to the MUC flight (TG924), which now leaves at 00:50 instead of 1:00 am.

S**t! That means most of TG European connection is out as most of them leaves BKK at around midnight.

Well, looks like it didn't matter whether LM fix the glitch or not, F to Europe in one ticket is out!

Good luck!

I think you may have read speculation rather than fact. We were caught up in schedule changes in July 2014 and LM reissued a ticket that involved an overnight stay in Bangkok. Going over in May 2014 we also ended up over this imaginary 8hrs & LM also reissued that ticket

It is interesting to note that it seems to be impossible to go to most parts of the Thai site at the moment but you can get into the section to make a booking!

Change that!-now seems to be blocked also

That's reassuring to know.

I found where I read about that LM won't reissue the ticket for connection > 8hrs:

Avianca LifeMiles unlocks low-cost business, first class flights - Australian Business Traveller

It's a bit of a double-edged sword If an airline retimes your flight and results in a transit longer than that eight hour cap. Not only are you inconvenienced by losing the timings of your original flights, Avianca won't re-issue your ticket until any new transits comply with the rule.

FWIW, I went ahead and requested LM to book me on F HND-BKK-SYD this September. Both in 747. I don't think they will decommission 747 in this year as they don't have enough aircrafts to cover all routes. There is a risk that BKK-SYD might be downgraded to 777 without F, but for 50k, even if just one sector in F is still worth the money.

Wish me luck with LM that they will just ticket it without incidence! Will keep you updated.

Something else I noticed is a BKK-MEL flight I had booked which has been showing 77W seatmap all along is now a 777-200/200ER. (it was 77W yesterday) :(

Fortunately it's a day flight and my outbound MEL-BKK...on overnight...still shows 77W, but we shall wait and see. Sigh.

As you know.. you're never sure until you're on the plane with TG!

Interesting that according to the schedule updates, flights between BKK-CAN are going to 773 from A330.. yet can't have consistent 77W in MEL?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Sigh my BKK-MEL leg has changed from 77W to 777-200/300 as well

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

With B747s and B777s you don't know what you will get until you board the plane. My gf recent flight to BNE had a last minute change to old J. Annoying but that's the chance you take when flying TG.

FWIW I did 4 MEL/BKK legs on TG J in October-December and got lucky half the time. I thought that was a good strike rate considering TG!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm getting confused with the 777's. Can someone please advise? I have a booking for Jnr#2 MEL-xBKK-LHR. The first leg is on TG462. When I booked it, I selected seat 19K, which I assume must have been on the 77W (?) I have just gone into Thai website booking, and it shows 777-200/300. Looking at the seat maps for 777-200 & 777-300, there is no 19k.

Basically, I just want to sit her somewhere that wont require a seat re-allocation due to aircraft change (ok, I know it's TG ). Would, say, row 14 be safe regardless of aircraft change?

business class starts at row 11 on Tg... so anything 11-14 (or 15 if they have no row 13) will be fine.

Hmmmm.... To move or not to move, that is the question? Still shows her in 19K (is that on the wing or something?). Do you think they have allocated a new seat to her? Should I just grab 15B or J?

If you want a seat number that exists on all layouts then go 16B or 16J. 15B and 15J do not exist on the 77W.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

FWIW if I end up with *old* J (2-2-2) I go for an aisle seat, especially if an overnight flight.

To me they're all very similar but my last flight in the old config was 16F and I'd happily select the same seat again.

Yes, I was just considering the middle section aisle seats. She's traveling solo, so in that scenario, she won't have to climb over anyone or have anyone climb over her to get out.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Does someone know when TG will pick up their 787's? And will their J cabin have at least a 180 degree flat bed?

Except that I can't select middle aisle seats on the TG website. I might have to put in a call to Thai and see if I can get row 12 or 14 per ExpertFlyer.

They've had some (2?) for quite some time now.

The have a full flat but different product to A380 / 77W. Not staggered, in a 2-2-2 arrangement...so no direct aisle access for all.
