Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

Anything is possible. I would like to know if anyone knows any good exchange deals into lifemiles. I know there is a current promo with purchasing spg I think a bonus 20% and the ratio is 1:1 not sure. But they are expensive .
Also buying from FTD is 20 miles per dollar.

Why not stay with USDM Shanye? If you have miles there.

Also *Gold with NZ??

The redemption with lifemiles are more appealing ATM .
Nz star alliance gold membership nothing special.

FTD - $50/1000 miles
Just buying LMs at normal rates $30/1000 miles

Re: Avianca Transfer Miles promo (of course you need some miles to start with)

I thought that perhaps I would keep updating this thread with progress reports on my booking / flights, given that LifeMiles redemptions are so "new" to all of us

...

So, all is looking good - I'm still going to hold on to the SQ award flight this TG fare is replacing for as long as possible though, just in case :) Next step is to see if they actually let me check-in and fly... will report back on that later!

Online check-in completed successfully :D Feeling a lot more confident they're not going to turn me away at the gate now ;) Time to cancel my SQ booking...

Re: Avianca Transfer Miles promo (of course you need some miles to start with)

For reference I credited a MEL-BKK in Q class on TG Sunday night to AV and points posted today. Within 72 hours, not bad at all.

There was an issue with SABRE cutting off the last digit of my FF number when it came to checkin with TG. This meant TG had no record of the FF program despite SABRE having confirmed the number being entered correctly. It was easily sorted by adding the number at check-in though. Just keep this in mind and make sure you have AV* showing on your BP's.

Re: Avianca Transfer Miles promo (of course you need some miles to start with)

I need to get from Australia to Sth America, and wanted to throw in a First leg or two. It seems I can get SYD-SFO F with United, or come via Asia/Europe on Thai in F until about Paris or so.

Any advice which of these two is the better in F?

Has anyone found a way to put together a RTW F trip using LifeMiles?

TG F beats UA F. But if UA saves 20 hours then it is better than TG F :)

Success! Writing this from Paris after arriving earlier this morning on SYD-xBKK-CDG TG F booked via LifeMiles.

"New" 747 F on SYD-BKK with 6/10 seats taken. Not a bad seat (although pretty dated now), and sitting in the nose of a 747 (I had 1A) has a certain pleasant feeling to it :) Service was good, food and champagne were good - only downside was some irritatingly loud Germans I shared the cabin with. Hardly TG's fault though.

Really enjoyed the ~7 hours at the BKK lounge (with an hour massage thrown in for good measure). A quick wander through the airport reminded me how average BKK airport is overall though - give me SIN any day! Food was excellent, drinks only OK - but the best part was the service. So good! Love the buggy/escort service to/from the plane too - even if the distance is short it's great to be able to sit in the lounge till the last minute and be taken to your flight just before takeoff.

Final leg BKK-CDG was on one of the leased Jet Airways 777-300ERs. I can see what people mean when they say the F cabin on these birds is feeling a bit tired - almost seemed like it was poor quality build to begin with, and it's really starting to show? That being said, it's still a great hard product and a huge step up over the 747 F cabin. I think it might be the same seats that QFF use in their A380s - albeit in a different "suite config"? I quite liked the "private suite" with the door closed too. Drinks were again good but the sushi I ordered for (very late) supper was terrible - luckily the rest of the food was good, and I was full from earlier dinner in the lounge anyway.

As an aside, these back to back flights were a good reminder of what a nice plane the 777 is too - noticeably smoother and quieter than the preceding 747.

Finally, by way of comparison, my only other F flight to date was on QF A380 and I'd have to say the QF experience was better in just about every way - but that's not to take anything away from TG here, we're talking about really great vs really, really great :) I got lucky on the QF flight too and scored an exceptional FA, which makes a big difference.

So, all-in-all, a very enjoyable journey :) Bring on more LifeMiles promotions!

Excellent! Thanks for the ongoing feedback.

I am considering this SYD-BKK-CDG as the opening leg of a RTW starting ex SYD next year. Had seen there is a long stopover at BKK but it appears that wasnt too painful?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Has anyone booked and then cancelled! I want to change one of my legs on the way back. Is there just a cancel button or do I have to call up?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Crossing the International Date line east-bound is normally as expensive as it gets. However if you ever find yourself stranded on a Southwestern Pacific Atoll and need to get back to US non-mainland soil, there is a way to do it for 50 % less than the obvious direct way. I checked over 35 airports and only One seems to do the trick. Normal price $1,079.20. Your Price : As low as $ 191.25 + $ 39.45 in taxes

Shayne, as I have said before, I admire your dedication. But I expect your path will will be full of pitfalls.

US non mainland soil??? Could that be like Guam or something???

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

It's unlikely to be a route you're ever going to fly so why do want to know what it is? You would still need to get to the origin and destination to use it.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Gum hnl 20k in Y ? I don't think that's the routing tho

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

GUM is hardly SW Pacific...although it is a cheap redemption to the US mainland.

I agree with smit...what's the point if you have to find yourself stranded on a SW Pacific atoll to begin with.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

You could use USDM to get from Au to gum in J 30k , right so then continue with this new routing . If not Guam then ?

So I pay my own way to CNS...then fly to GUM...then to HNL...then possibly another flight to where I actually want to go.

I suspect WWE is talking about GUM.

I'm sure with your outstanding knowledge of geography you will be able to crack this one all by yourself.

Just because something is cheaper doesn't mean it's good value.

Is GUM anywhere near RGN!?? ;)

FYI if taking a long trip from GUM to the mainland via HNL on UA the aircraft is a domestically configured 777 with recliners.
