Australian state border restrictions

Happy to share my quarantine experience in 2021. I was pinged while driving to RPH for my mandatory day 11 PCR test and had to explain my whereabouts to the authorities.. Btw it took me 7 hours, after queuing up in 36 degree heat, to get my PCR on what I thought was going to be a quiet Sunday. Coincided with the infection of a quarantine hotel security officer from Maylands and half of that suburb turned up for testing! Outside of that I regularly received requests to 'check in with my photo' via my phone. On a side note, my friend had police visit her home on several occasions during her iso..They made her come to her bedroom window so they could ID her. She unfortunately contracted the lurgy from the infamous Ruby Princess.. But hey, things may well have changed.. if so, I'll find out next week..and as always, YMMV.

Well it's all well and good for the state spy agency police to keep tabs on people with low numbers but as we've seen in every other state it falls apart pretty quickly once more than a handful of people are isolating

It already has though, the testing regime is so holey and the compliance levels are so low it’s 100% moving undetected - but thankfully the population is so highly vaccinated which is great, again the fact that there are still border restrictions when the virus is present and spreading is just insane.

Got my CHO letter now. Sheesh.

The CHO over here is a donkey and just a glove puppet for Dear Leader McGowan.

They both worked together in the Navy at HMAS Stirling.

McGowan was notorious then for being callous; now he's doubling down on that trait.

A sinecure called for a compliant CHO...

"We've had the strongest tourism numbers in Western Australia of anywhere in Australia and anywhere in history over the last two years because we kept COVID out"

Dear leader in WA has now reached the summit of Trump with these whacky comments and language

One thing about 'advice' to ministers, is that it is usually given in response to a request for advice from the ministers. Which means the government ministers (or premier) frame the actual question they ask.

I have a pretty good idea about where he is aiming the peak to occur.....

In this context you are absolutely right. On a personal note one of the reasons I bailed out of the public service proper relatively quickly, was because I couldn't stand the tip toeing around minister's offices.

You would hope a certain date in May is not in the calculations but I don't trust anything from any government any more. I am sure there are at least a few more like me in this country who used to have a trust in the institution of government but have been badly burnt.

I don't get this tourism boom they harp on about.
I had couple trips to WA last 2 years & although they hotel & travel operators I dealt with cancelling seemed fine & said they still get full on weekends only. Surely they must've had a low base in previous years.

Is mgowan saying they could survive another year & set another record of tourism?

Does he realise there is so much more to a state than tourism (QLD the exception I realise).

I just don't understand the man.

So on the radio this morning there was an advert trying to get people to relocate to WA, not sure it will be too successful far too many arrival restrictions and too big a risk that you cant easily leave and return again if needed. If everything is so great in WA why are they needing to advertise in Sydney? Hypocritical that they don't want east coast tourists but desperate for east coast workers.

Can I ask where in Central Asia?
Azerbaijan.

Here’s some modelling that suggests May is a bad idea and it gets rapidly worse after that. Draws on the problem that immunity wanes over time.

Health outcomes will worsen if WA border remains shut too long, new Omicron modelling shows

McGowan’s response is quite remarkable, like Sgt. Schultz “I know noooothing”

Mr McGowan on Tuesday said he had not seen any Omicron modelling.

cheers skip

Wow I missed that one @PineappleSkip

What a joke. Oh well a month in Europe instead of seeing my family, if that's the way Mark McGowan wants it (obviously that's true) then so be it.

Have been running that ad on radio in SA for over 2 months and some billboards up around the city. Seems the WA government are trying their hardest to get people move to WA

I get YouTube ads constantly about moving to WA for a better life for the kids. Shame for them I don't have any.

Not to mention house prices!

Me getting a job that pays $100k PA higher than currently is still a pay cut in absolute terms.

Still awaiting G2G ... twiddles thumbs ....

They were running that ad here in Tassie since before Christmas. Seems to be another example of wasting their taxpayers money.

Agreed, hotels in Perth and Freo are ghost towns, whole floors blocked off during the week due to border restrictions.

I know originally there was some confusion around reported occupancy because they were operating at reduced capacity.... so for example I own a hotel 100 rooms, I have 60% of rooms offline (shut off) = 40 rooms avail. On a Friday I sell 30 rooms = 75% of available occupancy - and some unscrupulous government ministers were using that and screechiing NO PROBLEM HERE. This happened in QLD too. Actual occupancy however is really 30%, the rooms and floors are shut to save cost....

Also - you not understanding him is actually a credit to your intelligence btw :)

Now with people switching to work from home mode, it is even quieter in the CBD.

Looking through the right lens helps with understanding!

I thought shadow lockowns were in Melbourne and Sydney and Perth was booming...

In all seriousness my office in the Melbourne CBD is more populated this week than probably any point in the last 2 years. And I've been here constantly since the first day of the first lockdown.
