Southern Tasmania enters three-day snap lockdown after hotel breach.

Hobart and southern Tasmania will enter a three-day snap lockdown after a 31-year-old man escaped hotel quarantine in the city earlier this week.
The man returned a positive coronavirus test result on Wednesday night, prompting Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein to announce the lockdown on Friday afternoon.

I think that might be "6pm on Friday" as, despite whatever delusions politicians suffer from, emergency powers won't allow them to roll back time!
Seems a bit of a pointless exercise anyway. The escape happened Wednesday. I could see some sense in restricting travel to and from the Hobart area, but what's there to be gained locking down the area? Worst case is that it's got loose in the community and if it has, it could be anywhere in the State by now.
Most sensible thing would be to continue to push vaccinations and if we have some community spread, so what? It's inevitable anyway, unless we shut the borders for ever.

Once again the Tasmanian lockdown has shown the inherent instability of Covid-zero bubbles.

All those shiny PER-HBA//LST flights in tatters no doubt.

WBBL cricket will have to be cancelled.

Vaccinate and open up and stay open.

Well & truly lost the plot 😂 😂 😂

The Rocky Horror Show is on at the Theatre Royal in Hobart. I went last weekend and it was excellent.
It was planned for last year and they had to postpone to this year. Now they get a Covid lock-down, right in the middle. Three days so far but who knows what ongoing restrictions will spring into existence.
Two weeks ago I cancelled a trip to Brisbane because of potential Covid border problems. Now I'm wondering if I'll have to cancel again for the same reason but in the opposite direction! I'm wondering what opportunities there are in Transylvannia? I reckon I could get used to the fishnet stockings but not so sure about the heels. At least I wouldn't have any expectations of rational life!

Fully vaxed in NSW red zones will be able to enter Victoria as from 19 October. Negative test 72 hours before, then iso pending -ve test.
Does the testing from the testing hubs counts? Or we need to get a "paid" PCR test at the airport?

Pity he forgot to vaccinate his state while they dealt with precisely nothing covid related all year…. Yet another useless Premier.
Depends on what you define the purpose of a Premier to be. If you work on the basis that the primary function of a politician is to be re-elected, Gutwein is doing very nicely.
Border closures are popular and just in case there are starting to be doubters, a three day lock down is a bit of a flex to show how nasty and dangerous it is out there; and of course, how essential it is to maintain a state of emergency!

If he goes too far the legislative council will rein him in. Queensland could do with a house of review.

No it is likely we will get them in Lonnie now.The weekend matches might still be played in Hobart without a crowd.major income is from the TV rights.
No lockdown in northern Tasmania so maybe a few flights into HBA will become flights into LST.

But if you’ve visited from WA you could now be looking at 14 days quarantine if you go home.

It’s also not sustainable for sports to be moved hundreds of KMs at the drop of the hat.

Good point and although I could care less the state of politics in the state I hope it terrifies the local population into hurrying up and getting vaccinated…

The map showing the Tasmanian lockdown area ( COVID-19 Coronavirus: Lockdown | Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) ) provided me some amusement, when read in conjunction with the restrictions.
"Urgent household supplies, with 5 km of home". Might work for Hobart but most of the area locked down is either wilderness, or very scarcely populated. Liawenee, administrative centre of the Great Lake area is locked down. It's easy to see how a Covid outbreak could get out of hand there, with a population of 3. It could go from zero to 100% infection in one day. Thank god we're being protected. I just hope they've got enough toilet paper!

Boyer makes paper but it’s mainly newsprint. Good use for the Mercury?
