Australian state border restrictions

Of course Vic has much lower testing and higher positivity rate in the last few days than NSW, so likely the actual incidence in Vic is already greater than in NSW.

As we say to people still frothing about case numbers in NSW, VIC, ACT - it will never be as low as it is right now so if people are still scared and counting them and calculating peaks and troughs and obsessing over them, it’s only going to get worse for you

This really should get more air time.

Previously, I was waiting in anticipation for the release of the numbers each morning. But now, double vaxxed... meh... don't care...

There are some knowledgeable people suggesting that future variants will become weaker -ie more cases but very much less severe disease.

That is a trend isn’t it like with Spanish flu.

Yup exactly and that is how everyone should be really, our clinics are dealing with so much anxiety because of the rabid obsession with case numbers, state v state comparisons blah blah blah etc.

We are likely all going to get covid, once you, your family and loved ones are double vaxxed you have done the most you can to protect yourself from getting it severely, so it’s time to put all the case numbers counting behind you :)

Focusing on borders / restrictions as a result of number of cases per 100,000 people over a 14 day period? Gosh, that's so last year. Welcome to 2021 Australia!

I suspect it was purposly "leaked" to test the waters to see if such policy might be worth pursuing. Reaction was such that the consideration was withdrawn.
Very common in the UK, lots of things are leaked via the Spads to gauge public opinion.

That's how viruses often survive, weakens itself just so it can continue to spread/exist. Good news for us.

I don't think we ever did restrictions or border closures on rates per 100,000 people. It's always been total number of cases. In the case of WA it's anything >1, shut the border.

Seriously does anyone see WA opening EVER while the virus is still around in the eastern states? I've been trying to get there for work for 18 months. Now given up.

So therefore they will never open to anyone ever as last time I checked the rest of the world had Covid to some extent.

One thing I would bank on is that the Federal Government will not allow a WA-NZ bubble.

Does anyone care? I no longer do.

Before the current outbreak, there were test and quarantine restrictions rather than flat "shut the border" or HQ requirements. I entered back into WA having to get a test on the way in and isolate at home until negative came through. One would hope that this could be part of a pathway back to interstate travel.

I don't want to go to WA while Mark is in power ! There is a lot of stuff I want to see in WA but not while he is pulling the strings !!

WA moving Victoria to extreme risk from next Wednesday

The static 500 cases metric does help smaller states (ie, it's not per capita).

If it were per capita, ACT would only need around 25 cases vs NSW 500.

I can never see ACT getting 500 cases a day (pre 80%), so they will never be an extreme risk.

I wonder if they act just as fast on the way down? Most models predict NSW will get to below 500 cases before the reopening. I can't see Mark rushing to downgrade NSW to a high risk.

The NT CHO declared all of Vic a hotspot today - had previously only declared an ( increasing) number of LGAs. All of NSW has been a declared hotspot since late July.

As best I can tell transit through Vic airports is still permitted, without any ‘test on arrival and isolate until negative result’ requirement (which is required for anyone transiting SYD or CBR) but only returning NT residents and people specifically approved can now travel from Vic to NT and must do the 14 day supervised quarantine at the Darwin or Alice facilities.

Wonder if the airlines will wind back flights accordingly again.

I personally think the airlines may as well ground their whole network for a month. What’s the point trying to plan a schedule.

They might also prove a point to some people.

I tried my luck earlier this year. There were no reported covid cases in the WA community at all when I boarded the plane. The next day, Perth went into lockdown.

I won't bother giving it another go anytime soon. WA can keep its "paradise" for themselves.

Though there will always be people that don't follow the rules such as the recent example of the fellow who flew NTL-BNE taking advantage of the QLD Government allowing transits from a red zone to fly 6 hours later BNE-DRW and testing positive on arrival.
