Australian state border restrictions

Yikes. Even going to Tasmania from Victoria seems like a bad idea, maybe even until 80% target reached. Economy on life support again soon...
At the end of the year if I can’t go to the UK, and if VIC is not in lockdown I plan to risk visiting SA and TAS from VIC.

In life one has to take some risks. Whilst the nanny state won’t let us take the risk of going overseas, going interstate is something we can do.

Yes the welfare states know who tucks them into bed every night 🤪😂
Dum-de-dum-de -dum. I’ll just leave this here:

… and for the sixth quarter in a row, Tasmania holds the mantle of the best performing economy.

Tasmania leads on four of the eight indicators and is second ranked on another two. There is little to separate the other economies. Victoria is second; ACT, third; South Australia, fourth; NSW, fifth; Western Australia, sixth; Queensland, seventh; and the Northern Territoryis eighth.

And that’s having incredibly tight borders, keeping the interstate tourists out for much of the time

Apologies, that sounds very smug, but just in the way of light hearted banter. Aware of the hardships of lockdowns and as I’ve predicted before, our time will come …

So with the South East QLD snap lockdown restrictions starting at 4pm today, I am driving down to BNE airport to pick up RON. The traffic heading north out of Brissy is incredible. The Bruce Hway, the Gateway are a car park !! 😮 there can't be many left to lock down !!
Looks like we are going to have a very slow trip home to the sunny coast !!

Don't forget to pick up some toilet paper :)

Yes, but Tasmania will have to turn in many many quarters of that sort of growth to catch up for the lost decades of growth since the 1980s compared to the other states, all those stats are coming off very low decade+ bases.

Remove the Hobart real-estate bubble/prices from those stats and they might look a bit different. :D

Oh I agree. It well take some time to get our health and education levels repaired for the previous woeful administrations. But it's not a bad performance in the last year given our heavy reliance on tourism.

It's not just Hobart where the real estate is booming. Virtually the whole state. Rental availability and affordability a big issue state-wide.

SA real estate has increased by over 17% in past year. Caused apparently by cashed up interstaters who can work remotely.

Not advocating it at all but if anyone in Queensland wants to do a runner to the NT the border between Hells Gate Roadhouse and Borroloola is completely unmanned 🤣 My sister and BIL went through earlier today - and yes they had a border pass and were coming from Cairns 87463239-715F-4428-B60C-E464406F50A2.jpeg

You might get lucky.
In July I flew to HBA, MEL and DRW all from the covid epicenter of SYD, NSW.

Timing is everything

I have friends who've been travelling all over the place since this began. I think ACT is the only place they haven't been. They have not been caught out yet, but I do note that shortly after they leave, most places have been locked down. So, either just ahead of the wave, or causing it. On the other hand, I worry about going 5 kms to Dan Murphy's, as it's over the NSW border, and who knows what the rules will be by the time I've bought some wine.

Your family members’ arrival may well still have been noted- NT police have indicated camera surveillance is/has been used to monitor activity at remote/unstaffed border crossing points

This just popped up on the ABC live blog

The NSW/Victorian COVID border bubble has been strengthened

From state political reporter Bridget Rollason via Twitter:

"NSW Vic border bubble strengthened. Bubble residents can only cross the border without a permit for six reasons including medical care, compassionate reasons, work, education, playing sport or getting vaccinated."
"You’re not allowed to cross the border to visit a friend, go for a meal or go on a holiday.
