Australian state border restrictions

Looking for evidence of WA s definition, it it was mystery cases then NSW would be allowed in, as we have never averaged more than 5 mystery cases per day over any 14 day period. That article makes i look more like WA consider community cases any case outside of hotel quarantine irrespective of whether linked to a known source.
I think WA use the term community case to mean local transmission.

Yes, what I’ve learnt over the last 9 months is that “community transmission”, refers to unknown spread in the community (aka mystery cases) whereas “community cases” refers to # of cases within a community, but does not include those bringing in the virus from outside the community if they remain isolated (such as in quarantine) (aka local cases).

So what is a case from the community that was already in isolation lol???

Unfortunately you are correct which is why it’s such a ridiculous benchmark and as the country opens up there will be ‘community cases’ in every single state so by their rules WA will shut once again with everyone forced to do 14 days quarantine.

Guaranteed.

With Victoria heading towards 14 days with no mystery cases, they must be under consideration for Qld quarantine-free entry.

As things sit now with NSW getting a mystery case every 10-14 days, most likely Victoria will meet Qld’s quarantine benchmark of 28 days with no mystery cases before NSW. I just hope there is no other unknown factor/measure (eg no international quarantine in place) in respect of Qld entry conditions.

NSW doesn’t sound like it will consider removing quarantine entry to travellers from Melbourne without Victoria having re-introduced international quarantine for a while.

If this is the case, then it’s possible Qld might open to Victoria/Melbourne before NSW does.

WA quarantine-free entry (28 days without any local case) is a whole other post but suffice to say it’s not likely for Vic or NSW this side of Christmas - if a new local case occurs in Vic and NSW on 25 November, it’s all over for Christmas.

Victoria's only mystery case at present is a case here it was either residual virus from a previous infection, or he caught the virus a second time. It is most likely the former, but at present they cannot prove it either way and so it lumped it as the more cautious category of mystery case.

This mystery case was on 24th Oct, and so the clock starts from that date.

Of course there will be unknown factors/measures, just like the ones that were sprung last minute on NSW..... of that we can be certain. I look forward to hearing what the new ones made up for VIC will be (if they are even released publicly I guess).

This will never ever happen, even with a vaccine so we will all have to wait until March.... however with the numbers staying so low, the support for restrictions continues to plummet, public pressure will be enormous for Xmas.

Rumours just on the radio that SA are working on a VIC announcement following NSW's yesterday....

Some lovely stories at the soon to be opened NSW / VIC borders. Feel good Friday :)

Quite heart warming familes able to see new members :)

NSW-Victorian border reopening cheered by families, twin towns and businesses

Families are set to meet new members for the first time and business owners whose shops became checkpoints will wave goodbye to police and soldiers as the New South Wales-Victorian border reopens.

Wagga Wagga resident Sofia Dominguez gave birth during COVID-19, which has prevented her Melbourne-based parents from being able to greet the new arrival.

"It's been really hard not having my family be able to meet him," she said.

"When I got the message from my parents that the border would reopen I had a big grin on my face and maybe a tiny little tear."

Another 'state' opens, ACT fully open to all states from Nov 23

----

ACT follows NSW and opens border to VIC on November 23

Canberrans will be able to travel to and from Victoria from November 23, Health Minister Rachel Stephen-Smith has confirmed.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced the border between her state and Victoria would open on that date, and the ACT will follow, although ACT Chief Health Officer Kerryn Coleman has released a more cautious statement about watching case numbers in the southern state.

"In line with NSW, the ACT will move to ease restrictions for people travelling from Victoria to the ACT from the 23rd of November," Ms Stephen-Smith said, acknowledging the news would be welcome for Canberrans with family and friends in Victoria.

The thought came to my mind if all the borders are quarantine-free except Qld for Sydney travellers and WA for NSW travellers, it would just mean Sydney/NSW travellers need to take a quarantine-free pitstop elsewhere before travelling to Qld/WA. During Christmas/New Year quite possible with many taking extended holidays into late January, especially since Covid restrictions helped anyone still with a job save on annual leave.

For WA this is correct, and they are pretty clear that is the case

travellers who have only spent time in ‘very low risk’ jurisdictions in the 14 days prior to entry to Western Australia will not be required to quarantine on arrival into WA or present for Day 11 testing.

However spending 2 weeks in quarantine in WA or having to take a 2 week detour elsewhere just to enter WA or QLD for a week will be a waste for most people. Better to just spend 1 or 2 weeks vacation in another state where you are welcome rather than have to spend extra leave and $ en route to circumvent somewhere that doesnt really want (or deserve) your businees.

Sure, but it does depend on whether someone in NSW/Sydney ultimately wants to say visit relatives in WA/Qld. I guess the meet at a neutral spot would work as well.
