Todays Vic numbers indicate the downward trend isn't there yet:

And as predicted on Monday, Victoria over took NSW on total case numbers

Or people just stay home when they are sick. I think the soldier on mentality though has gone (thankfully!). People will be chased out of office if they so much as sneeze now!
Unfortunately its still there, even earlier this winter I was having an employee sent home because he was in the office saying "I wont stand too close to you as I have the flu". Some people think they need to be seen to be productive. I raised this with my HR only yesterday as they prepare for people to return to the office next month.

It is an interesting question about what if you got a negative PCR but had symptoms still - allowed back into the office? or have to wait til symptoms disappear? what if it takes more than a week and someone runs out of leave?

It's just that time of the week. Always surges later in the week. Even Auckland had a surge today (102).

So a unvaccinated Uber driver from Melbourne has moved up to the Gold Coast and been loose for 10 days with Covid
And too unwell to speak and was very symptomatic when in Melbourne. Sigh.
So given Qld's current domestic quarantine rules the uber driver didn't follow a lot of rules (quarantine, QR, etc) and got caught out because too sick and presented to hospital???

Hardly anyone checks in up here, he'd hardly be alone....

Oh well, honestly the silver lining is that it will give the Premier some growling power to get people vaccinated! Its a really good wake up call.

And if this sparks YET another lockdown in SE QLD, it will also drive vaccinations so we can stop doing these lockdowns over and over and over.

But there's a 13k strong queue of domestic travellers trying to enter Queensland?

Strong message from Annastacia and co to Gold Coast residents - “you wanted the borders opened, the virus comes with that, get your vax rates up.”

Its not that difficult to get across the border from NSW if you have a car and really want to get here...

I don't know if this is how he got here but regardless its going to keep on happening.

I really hope we don't have yet another lockdown..... :(

Oh dear..... who can sniff a lockdown and restrictions?

New local covid case in the Gold Coast puts Qld on high alert, authorities considering lockdown

Queensland has recorded one new community Covid-19 case, with authorities saying they are “very concerned” about the new infection detected on the Gold Coast.

Chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young revealed the unvaccinated man in his 30s is an Uber driver, saying he had become so sick that he was struggling to even speak with contact tracers.

The man lives at an apartment complex in Broad Beach and is understood to have been in Melbourne on October 10 before coming back to Queensland.

Dr Young also revealed the man hadn’t used his QR code check in system at all in Queensland.

“We have not been able to work out where he has been in the community, “ she said.

I don’t care which Govt is in power but this behaviour must surely drive the Govts insane. Almost to the extent of Joe Public asking what’s the point of doing everything right when it takes just one covidiot to cause so much harm.

While Australia has an enviable medical safety net, there are people on the fringes who don’t qualify for that safety net or are not aware they qualify for that safety net. Additionally there remains a fear for some people that if they go to hospital they will die, or a lack of trust. People fall through.

This is nothing new and precedes the CovidEra. There are actually a lot of reasons why there remains a disconnect between some people and the health system.

Socioeconomic often plays a role. The need to earn an income might take a higher precedence to health. Unfortunately this is the reality for a lot of the working poor. It’s very easy for some to have the resources to lockdown with a stable income and zoom in. For others they have to go out and keep working to put food on the table. Hence one reason for the disparity in CovidPositive cases between LGA

Not sure if UberDriver is one but there are reasons why “Covidiot” might not necessarily be a fair characterisation.
