I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! crew member sparked North Coast lockdown

The COVID-19 case that led to the Byron and Tweed LGAs going into a seven-day snap lockdown was a member of a film crew attached to reality show I'm a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!

Production company ITV Studios Australia confirmed one of its crew had contracted the virus, and said the woman was fully vaccinated and wore PPE while she was at work.

The woman was an authorised worker but it's understood she did not follow stay-at-home orders while in the area (the series is being filmed in the Northern Rivers).

NSW Police said contact tracing was underway and authorities would investigate any alleged breaches of the Public Health Order.

Ah only an authorised worker. Surely film crew are essential? Obviously far too important to follow stay-at-home orders which are just for us hoi polloi.

Its kinda hilarious…lol😂
But lucky the Northern Rivera and the Byron region are leading the way on vaccinations so sure all will be fine 🤔👍🏼

I live in a apartment, there are still outdoor areas on common property to gather more safely than indoors. Kids who live in apartments dont stay in doors all day, the numerous kids yelling and squealing whilst playing outside my apartment right now proves that.
I live in an apartment too and there are children but there are no common areas except for car parks. Sometimes you just need to realise you aren't always right even though you seem to want to argue with everyone

No but that is completely irrelevant to risk level and/or fairness of the decision. Why is making indoor social interactions easier for unvaccinated children more important than a vaccinated adult?
Because kids have given up everything that is important to their learnings. Socially and educationally. Not to protect them but their elders. We totally need to cut kids and their parents some slack. I cannot even imagine the stress of working at home and home schooling kids for months now. One parent commented that the difference between his older child and his now covid educated child was immense. I just hope they can zoom along once they go back to proper school.

Rankings of a selection of Sydney LGAs' positive tests (adjusted for population) for the 7-day period

Canterbury-Bankstown 350 (per 100,000)
coughberland 349
Liverpool 329
Blacktown 218
Fairfield 186
Randwick 180
Camden 179
Campbelltown 178
Sydney 158
Penrith 123
Bayside 119
Strathfield 117
Georges River 108
Parramatta 82
Burwood 68

Randwick's and Camden's number going up as well as up the rankings a bit.

If Georges River keeps their Reff below 1 for a sustained period, perhaps a reclassification possibility for Burwood, Parramatta, Georges River, Strathfield and Penrith. Bayside's Reff still hovering above 1.

None of which addresses why it considered an acceptable risk for 3 unvaccinated kids from different households to gather indoors (without masks) but not 3 fully vaccinated adults. My point was the decision is inconsistent with the health messaging that in-home tops the list for delta transmission, and inequitable. Its not only kids that have sacrificed and given up what is most important to them to protect the elderly.

The kids bubbles could have been introduced as outdoor play dates in parks or backyards. Last year those living in Southern Northern Beaches could have limited guests gather in outdoor areas at their home or in a park but not indoors over the 3 days of xmas (24-26the Dec) so there is a precedent.

Alternatively also allow fully vaxed adults the same ability for in home gatherings of 3, as health risk is no greater yet the mental health benefits would be enormous for those living alone.

It was decided by appropriate adults after consultation with children. We get that you are not on board with this, but it is happening and will bring joy to many children.

Probably for similar reasons why 26,000 people could meet in Adelaide for a footy match and yell and scream and drink alcohol and sing and then all catch transport home together in jammed buses and trains while we were limited to five people at home and no singing was allowed. Sh@t happens.

I’ve got a young son (kindergarten age), and looked at the [kids] bubble thing for him, but given it’s almost a certainty that we’re opening up the Monday after the 70% double in NSW in only (?!) 19 days on the 11th Oct, we’ll just avoid the complexity of it and stick to more fun and flexible outdoor gatherings until then. I can see it would be good for tweens and teens though

Bit of a spike in Newcastle - beaten the record even during the initial wave for HNE (it was 31)

Apparently the ''authorised'' worker has been charged with 5 offences for breaching public health orders.
