I don’t know I feel somewhat relieved that this pressure gasket has blown? Does anyone else feel the same?
I can't say that I feel any relief. My opinion would be different if this was a consensus position reached across the country but one State with Covid unleashed bodes to be even more of a mess than the current situation.

The absence of any sort of central leadership means that every State will play it for their own benefit. Tasmania is Covid free. I can't see our premier, allowing anyone from NSW to come here. If Victoria succumb, we'll simply ban them as well. Likewise SA etc, etc.

Fixed that for you.

Im fully vaccinated and so are all my immediate family, we should be able to visit each other in the safety of our own homes - that interaction presents no risk to anyone else.

It is sad there have been 5 deaths overnight, but all were over 60 so all have had months to get fully vaccinated and were not, if people choose not to avail themselves of the acess they were given, unfair to put burdens on those who did.
Please....stop saying that because people were not vaccinated, they "chose" not to be as if by choice. You do not know their particular circumstances or comorbidities.

I refuse to take responsibility for this one, although I agree it was asking for trouble to say "Covid free"!
In reality, this simply highlights the ridiculousness of our current State by State arrangements. The guy travelled to Tasmania without a pass. Why was he allowed on the plane? Oh, because he flew from Victoria and Victoria aren't interested in Tasmanian restrictions. Result, two plane loads of potential infections, plus whoever else he came into contact with along the way. I presume he got through Victoria by applying for a transit pass. That shouldn't have been issued without confirmation of a Tasmanian entry permit.
It was a pointless exercise anyway. There was no way he was going to be allowed into Tasmania from anywhere in NSW. Even as an essential traveller, he'd have to spend fourteen days in hotel quarantine.

Interestingly, on this record day in NSW... the Reff dropped to 1.0 today from 1.1, yesterday...
NSW Reff (effective reproduction number)

That might be reassuring if one was confident that cases aren't escaping detection. The odds of which are quite frankly not good.
The % of cases which were infectious in the community is getting lower
The % of cases is of much less relevance than the absolute number, which is still too high to suggest that numbers will be anywhere back near levels acceptable to the rest of Australia any time soon.

There's no trend in that percentage anyway...it's all over the place.

Interesting to read the articles on the NSW traveller to Tassie. Shows just how State focused everything is. Plenty of information on how he came to Tasmania but nothing about his departure. No departing flight information or whether he's been caught up with in NSW. Once he flew out of Launceston; gone!

Daniel Andrews just stated that stroke patients, premature babies and car accident victims would receive very compromised care in EDs and hospitals if COVID was more widespread in the community.

Yikes. This is so alarmist.

Pretty clear that in the 5 new cases there have been symptomatic people who did not get tested when they should have, plus who breached the rules on not visiting other households.

It is but unfortunately we have many examples that when you don’t go hard early (including in your language) people don’t take it seriously. This certainly happened here in Sydney. And from overseas experience this statement is true that all medical care suffers when Covid is not contained quickly.

I get it… but really, why lost for words? This was exactly what was agreed upon at National Cabinet. Short (we hope) sharp lockdowns until 70/80 % vaccinated.

Again I just hope this kicks people into action to get the jab. AZ is still in plentiful supply, apparently CSL is increasing production!
Without going in to a number of personal challenges I have at the moment (hence my desperation for family time in WA), simplify it and call it lockdown fatigue. I think every resident in Melbourne would identify with that.
