Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Pretty clear that in the 5 new cases there have been symptomatic people who did not get tested when they should have, plus who breached the rules on not visiting other households.

Well after Dan's later comments it is even more clear that at least one person knowingly did the wrong thing for an extended period of time. While he has not said who, I think it is quite clear who it was.

It is but it’s unfortunately true
I understand the point and how patient care can be compromised. I just feel like we should be hearing this kind of commentary from the CHO or similar, to actually explain how and why. It doesn't feel appropriate coming from a politician. Same as my point yesterday about WA's press conference with two politicians bumbling their way through attempting to explain how the miner could be presenting a complex set of pathology results.

I certainly know from my daughter's hospital this has been been very much the case. And not just those patients in emergency situations, but also those with elective surgeries and the the like. And many surgeries while called elective if delayed have adverse outcomes for the patient in those procedures being delayed.

Gosh it is dynamic today. No sooner had I posted #24,980, than up popped the ABC news app with the bad news that 1 more person (aged 34) has died from AZ related clot issue. Which is tragic for their family and friends.

But this is no more or less tragic than for the families and friends of the 16 or 17 people who have died, unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, in the current Sydney outbreak.

It's still time to get vaccinate, with whatever is available.

Without going in to a number of personal challenges I have at the moment (hence my desperation for family time in WA), simplify it and call it lockdown fatigue. I think every resident in Melbourne would identify with that.

Totally get it :(

But unfortunately there’s going to be more after this one too. Sorry. Same for all of us.

I use my energy to book people at my work, family, neighbours, friends in for vaccines ;) You can’t imagine how convincing I am :)

It is sad there have been 5 deaths overnight, but all were over 60 so all have had months to get fully vaccinated and were not, if people choose not to avail themselves of the acess they were given, unfair to put burdens on those who did.
I agree with you on every part of this except that over 60s have had plenty of time to get fully vaccinated. We have not, as I mentioned previously. Many over 60 were not able to get appointments until early-mid June, and so the 12 week period for AZ second shot won't be up until early-mid Sep.

Further, I understand from relatives in the over 50 bracket in NSW Central Coast who had already received first AZ shot before the change in recommendation to Pfizer, that they are not able to get any earlier appointments to bring forward their second AZ shot to less than 12 weeks because of the (sudden) increase in demand for people to get first shots, which seem to be getting priority.

So overall, I agree with what you are saying, except the victim blaming on the people/person who were not fully vaccinated. Now those who have not had any shots at all, they must shoulder some personal responsibility for that decision, and that includes them having the right to die from something that might not have killed them had they chosen to have even one of the AZ shots they could probably have arranged in the time period. What is hard about that is that I don;t think they also have the right to expose health care staff, and other people in the community, or even other members of their family, but that is the society we live in.

In my view, it is way past time for fully vaccinated people to get freedoms, pour encourager les autres, as they say.

PS edited to add: I am not yet fully vaxxed - have had first shot, and I was a bit slower than others in my circle to start for a number of reasons, and I accept that they should get privileges before me.

I can't say that I feel any relief. My opinion would be different if this was a consensus position reached across the country but one State with Covid unleashed bodes to be even more of a mess than the current situation.

The absence of any sort of central leadership means that every State will play it for their own benefit. Tasmania is Covid free. I can't see our premier, allowing anyone from NSW to come here. If Victoria succumb, we'll simply ban them as well. Likewise SA etc, etc.
Where is Australia when you need her? Broken down into a bunch of petty fiefdoms, squabbling and posturing, and politicising everything.

...and also joining the list of those requesting access to the 'secret' Pfizer supply.
