There are a lot of conditions which give symptoms like Covid apart from colds and flu.

Yes, According to What you need to know about coronavirus (COVID-19)

We have

Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Some people will recover easily, and others may get very sick very quickly. People with coronavirus may experience symptoms such as:

  • fever
  • respiratory symptoms
    • coughing
    • sore throat
    • shortness of breath.

Other symptoms can include runny nose, headache, muscle or joint pains, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, loss of sense of smell, altered sense of taste, loss of appetite and fatigue.

So a night on some alcoholic beverages (my bolding) ? 🤣

Well, they do acknowledge this:
Dr Li said because cough swabs were not as convenient as oral swabs, they were only being used for people under quarantine in major hotspots, including Daxing district in Beijing.

Good Lord. Let's hope they get the order right.
I'd probably prefer the cough swab compared to the nasal, but I'd need a shower afterwards in case they got too far in and found some excrement

Maybe I had a good operator but honestly nasal swab was over and done with in seconds.

Having had to endure about a dozen tests I can ensure that a good operator makes a huge difference. The last 2 were especially painful

Australians could receive 15-minute tests for COVID-19 immunity by September

  • 22 AUSTRALIANS RETURNING HOME OR TRAVELLING OVERSEAS COULD HAVE THEIR IMMUNITY TO COVID-19 TESTED IN JUST 15 MINUTES AT AIRPORTS AND QUARANTINE HOTELS BY THE END OF THE YEAR, UNDER A BUSINESS PLAN BEING PITCHED TO FEDERAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS.
THE COMPANIES HOPING TO ROLL OUT IMMUNITY TESTING, WHICH TESTS WHETHER A TRAVELLER IS IMMUNE TO THE CORONAVIRUS AFTER RECEIVING A VACCINE OR BEING INFECTED WITH THE DISEASE, SAY IT COULD BE USED TO HELP REOPEN ECONOMIES AND RESTART THE INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL INDUSTRY.
THE TEST IS DONE VIA A FINGER PRICK AND UP TO 30 PEOPLE CAN HAVE THEIR RESULTS PROCESSED AT THE SAME TIME WITHIN 15 MINUTES.
The finger print blood sample would be processed on a disc. Picture: Orbis DiagnosticsTHE FINGER PRINT BLOOD SAMPLE WOULD BE PROCESSED ON A DISC. PICTURE: ORBIS DIAGNOSTICS
NEW ZEALAND MEDICAL DIAGNOSTICS COMPANY ORBIS DIAGNOSTICS HAS PARTNERED WITH IDEMIA, WHICH IS DEVELOPING A SMARTPHONE APP AND “DIGITAL IDENTITY” SYSTEM TO CONNECT PEOPLE WITH THEIR TEST RESULTS, TO COMMERCIALISE THE TESTS.

THEY EXPECTED IMMUNITY TESTING COULD BE AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA BETWEEN JULY AND SEPTEMBER, PENDING GOVERNMENT APPROVALS.
“WE DON’T KNOW WHAT PROPORTION OF VACCINE RECIPIENTS WILL STILL HAVE A TRANSMISSION RISK (AND PASS ON THE VIRUS TO OTHERS),” IDEMIA OCEANIA MANAGING DIRECTOR XAVIER ASSOUAD SAID.

“THEY MAY STILL BE INFECTED, MAYBE WITHOUT SYMPTOMS BUT STILL SHEDDING THE VIRUS. WE DON’T KNOW HOW QUICKLY IMMUNITY WILL WANE.
“WHAT QUANTITATIVE IMMUNITY TESTING ENABLES IS THROUGH THE IDENTIFICATION OF PASSENGERS THAT HAVE SUCH LEVELS OF IMMUNITY, CALLED STERILISING IMMUNITY, YOU KNOW THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CARRY THE VIRUS EVEN WITHOUT SYMPTOMS. THAT ALLOWS YOU TO RELEASE THOSE LOW-RISK PASSENGERS INTO THE COMMUNITY WITHOUT QUARANTINE AND FOCUS THE RESOURCES ON THE TRAVELLERS THAT ARE A MATERIAL RISK TO THE COMMUNITY.”
The result of a person's immunity test would be sent to a smartphone app, which could then be shown to relevant authorities. Picture: IDEMIATHE RESULT OF A PERSON'S IMMUNITY TEST WOULD BE SENT TO A SMARTPHONE APP, WHICH COULD THEN BE SHOWN TO RELEVANT AUTHORITIES. PICTURE: IDEMIA
WITH IDEMIA ANNOUNCING ON WEDNESDAY IT WILL USE ITS CANBERRA INNOVATION LAB TO SUPPORT IMMUNITY TESTING IN AUSTRALIA, THE COMPANIES SAID THEY HAD REACHED OUT TO ALL STATE HEALTH OFFICERS AND CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER PAUL KELLY ABOUT THEIR PLAN, AS WELL AS RELEVANT MINISTERS AND AGENCIES. TALKS WERE UNDERWAY WITH SEVERAL OF THEM.
IF AUSTRALIA’S TOP DOCTORS SUPPORTED IMMUNITY TESTING, THE PROPOSAL WOULD ULTIMATELY BE PUT TO NATIONAL CABINET.
ORBIS DIAGNOSTICS CHIEF EXECUTIVE BRENT OGILVIE SAID A PLAN HAD ALSO BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT TO UNDERTAKE A 12-WEEK FINAL PHASE TESTING PROGRAM, INVOLVING TESTING BLOOD SAMPLES FROM PEOPLE IN QUARANTINE AND THOSE COMING THROUGH THE BORDER.
HE EXPECTED A COMMERCIAL ROLL OUT IN AUSTRALIA ONCE THE IMMUNITY TESTS WERE BEING USED OVER THE DITCH.
MR ASSOUAD ADDED: “WE EXPECT THE TESTS TO BE USED FIRST IN QUARANTINE FACILITIES IN ONE OR SEVERAL STATES IN AUSTRALIA BEFORE THEN MOVING INTO THE AIRPORTS. THERE WILL BE A PROGRESSIVE ROLLOUT IN THE AIRPORTS AS WELL.
“WE EXPECT THIS TO BE USED NOT JUST ON ARRIVALS FOR INBOUND PASSENGERS BUT ALSO ON DEPARTURES. THE PRIMARY REASON IS YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW IF YOU’LL BE ALLOWED IN A COUNTRY WITHOUT QUARANTINE BEFORE GETTING ON A PLANE.”

24 Million dollars is about to be spent on a Covid ad advertising campaign. I have seen the ad, and I think it is a total failure, flat and unmemorable. Worse there is an educational buzzing noise streak that turns some people off. Then there is 'appeal' by people in white coats, and appeal to authority. In short, the Gruen Ads we would like to see would make mincemeat of it, because it fails to sell.

How about this as a scene
Beautiful Girl 'I'm gettin it'
Handsome guy 'Im getting it
Another group 'We are getting it' (social approval)
Happy line of attractive people having shots 'We get iit'

Camera pans to guy being tackled by police who are pulling down his trousers to get an cough swab (with screaming).
Voiceover 'Get it now, to avoid really getting it

Big day for NSW tomorrow with QLD set to announce their border restriction update.

Fingers crossed they follow VIC and open up!

Well fantastic news for NSW with QLD reopening borders from Monday!

They broke the 28 day rule to let NSW back in.

See what WA have to say!

Queensland to open border to all of NSW next month as coronavirus threat eases

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has revealed the state will re-open its border to all of NSW on Monday, February 1.

It means Greater Sydney will no longer be declared a hotspot.

"Credit to New South Wales. They got on top of their cases in the end," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"Our Chief Health Officer was delighted last night when she briefed me and I think it's great news.

"So the border checkpoints will be coming down.

"It has been a really, really long haul, and it has been tough on everybody, but I've always maintained, I have to keep Queenslanders safe."

More to come.

But how many community cases in Sydney will it take to slam the border shut again? I don't want to risk coming to Qld, the border slammed shut again due to a few community cases in Sydney and be forced into retrospective hotel quarantine! The border reopening is great for family reunions etc, but I like to go somewhere for holiday stress free and this is currently not Qld with its trigger happy premier and CHO. Ditto WA!

At least they didn’t take ads out telling you that you were in a red zone...

But the desperate appeal by AP for NSW residents to support Cairns was quite amusing.

Well Anna i tried to support Port Douglas back in August, but you slammed the border shut despite there being no cases in my LGA or neighbouring LGAs at the time. Sorry but NSW just dont trust your CHO to act proportionately, too much uncertainty to book again anytime soon. Plus its wet season, most prefer to visit the reef without the stingers and cyclones.

If Premier AP really cared about businesses in FNQ she wouldn't have locked out all of NSW over peak winter season. Very slow to open border in July then super quick to close again after a week or so. Then rinse and repeat in Dec.

Start following Commonwealth hot spot definitions and when they occur limit lock outs to just those LGA's and people may reconsider planning Queensland holiday, until then Northern Rivers region of NSW continues to benefit from those seeking a beach holiday which they cant be locked out of.

Well I don’t care, just booked a bunch of travel in and out of NSW direct instead of skipping through VIC! Business doesn’t stop!

QLD didn’t close to VIC when they had a few cases from the Sydney outbreak so hopefully show some restraint with NSW next time.

The end of Jobkeeper will force premiers to exercise more restraint. The Feds have made that very clear.

When the hospitality industry asked for further assistance it was rejected outright.

Not sure if they’ll do anything for the airlines, probably continue to waive charges (which drives government business AirServices Australia into a huge deficit).

Travellers also need some guarantee that if a state retrospectively declares a red zone but their home state does not, they can return to their home state not be forced into HQ and trapped. Im not taking about anyone deemed a close contact but those unfortunate people who get caught up in knee jerk closures, who are often from area with no cases but get grouped in with areas that had a case.

Yes, until we can travel to a state and not be forced into quarantine there for an incident that happened a week before we left, and on return, not have to quarantine for an incident that occurred when away, unless a close contact, then travel interstate is fraught. WA is currently blitzing SA with tourism advertisements. Yeah, not likely. And conversely Vic Govt keeps telling us about their traffic lights. Opposite messages and neither is working to encourage anything.

I have no trust in borders after seeing what happened over New Years in Victoria and rules changing even for people in mid-flight in WA. And worse, the retroactive application of "hotspots" and people being forced into quarantine. I won't be spending money on tourism until this possibility is off the table. Last year we did a couple last minute weekend trips a few hour drive from Brisbane but I didn't pay anything until arrival and I was nervous the whole time that Brisbane might become a hotspot.

Even the hotspot thing is unfair. Why is a whole post code punished because one individual or maybe family turns up positive? Lets say for example they live 2 blocks away from me. I don't know them, don't interact with them. What if I was preparing for a trip/event and was at home avoiding being in close proximity with others? My efforts are for nothing! They need some way for people to have control over their lives. Take responsibility for our own actions and not randomly punished for the actions of others.

I just want the bloody check points gone. As best I can tell, the Victorian lights thing is all about making it easier to apply restrictions in the future. See, you only thought it was green, but now it’s red. New meaning to running a traffic light perhaps.

In the press conference that is on now, AP whinging for job keeper to be extended fpr FNQ, not taking any responsiblity that she was the one who killed domestic tourism over winter and Xmas by premature then prolonged border closures.

I hate that businesses are suffering but I also dont think the Feds should have to bail out bad decisions by the states.

Had domestic borders stayed open more reliably over the last year, it should have been a boon for domestic tourism as no one could go anywhere else. There were millions (if not billions) more that could have been spent holidaying at home, if only Premier's let Aussies in.

Almost choked when one of their ministers mentioned that Sydney has been doing it tough and need a Queensland break - I think they have no idea how open things have been in Sydney and what people are looking for is reliable bookings not more ways to tie up $ waiting for refunds whent he borders close again.
