I didn’t notice the article and I generally don’t read linked articles from this thread-TMI some times.

So quoting from the SMH article the reason for the border closure was:

“But it was crystal clear. In the absence of widespread coronavirus restrictions in NSW, a border closure was the only option”

So I guess a polite way of saying no masks, no hard lockdown on Sydney - that’s why Vic are having a hard border with the whole of NSW.....and about 10 cases not yet announced that day.

Yes. Remember too that case flew to Qld, and another drove to Melbourne. So it is not like the virus was contained or limited to the one or mystery case.

However I posted a number of times my personal view is that travel to Vic from Green Zone NSW should have remained though you may have had restrictions on what travellers needed to do on return .ie Quarantine and test. And certainly the quick deadline for people to return was too tight in my view.

Greater Sydney and Northern Beaches is a higher risk though. Multiple unknown cases remain which also increases the risk.

The way I read it was that the child (and family) are now overseas and the case has been picked up there.

It is not yet clear which country the child and their family have now travelled to.

Not so sure, they bumbled and stumbled through their press conference and sounds like reopening to QLD and VIC before the old 28 day rule is on the cards...

NSW though is not a discussion or consideration point for WA though, clearly....

The same premier who said we shouldn’t be lecturing each other.

as you've observed there is little social distancing etc in WA as the government encouraged everyone to get back to normal. Downside, they're screwed if Covid gets in, so they've had to go down this path of hard borders to keep it out.

There doesn't seem to be an exit plan to this.

More likely they will go from the hard border, to the not so hard border but still 14 day isolation.

Can't see the border opening without quarantine before the 28 days.

Certainly WA has engineered itself into a difficult position. I think people are starting to wake up to what is happening - the premiers tenor has certainly changed over the last few days, not sure what is behind it.

Well in view of the WA Premier wanting elimination I guess NSW should consider banning any WA residents arriving from OS.
Indeed why is WA still taking OS arrivals.Surely that is one of the major risks for an outbreak anywhere in Australia.

But then again preventing WA family members coming back home from OS is almost certainly not an election winner.

McGowan is accusing NSW of doing nothing to control the Covid Risk, which is laughable. Everything he says is motivated by the upcoming election.

Presumably if NSW announced that they would close Sydney airport to international arrivals (the source of nearly all cases in NSW) McGowan would applaud that as a positive step even though at a stroke it would decimate most overseas Australian's (including WA residents) chances of returning anytime soon?

I doubt that he cares.

VIC just rejected WA's attack on NSW management of the latest outbreak. Good to see some support for rational thinkers.

Also outright rejected any realignment to an elimination strategy as proposed by WA.
