Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

With the calibre of the WA response to the whole of the pandemic, evidently very challenging for them to understand ;)

On ABC radio it said that VIC have been working hard behind the scenes to get them all open, VIC got QLD to open on time for them to the shock of NSW who have been railing for months... they all appear to be born diplomats down there in Melbourne!

Fingers crossed.
Well all you Vics can travel to SA from Tuesday. 😂Well, I'd leave it a week. 😉

Tears of joy as Tasmanian-Victorian border reopens for first time in months

There have been emotional scenes at Tasmanian airports where families and friends have reunited after many months apart.

The borders between Victoria and Tasmania opened today after being closed for nearly eight months.

About 950 arrivals were expected into the state, according to figures from the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, the Government department responsible for managing the contact details of incoming passengers.

Among them was Marley Mrhar, who hadn't seen his daughter Tara in nearly a year.

"I've lived here for just over a year and I am from Victoria so its been hard, living down here without mum and dad," Tara Mrhar said.

"I didn't think I'd cry but I think emotions just take over."

Mother and daughter Kerry Stallard and Amanda Osuchowski were also reunited.

"I think we've been crying, tearing up for weeks now," Ms Stallard said.

"I think when we were in lockdown and not knowing that you just couldn't come home and give your mum or dad a hug and see your friends, that was really tough," Ms Osuchowski said.

There are eight flights today on the Launceston-Melbourne route — a big step up from the four a week since the border closure.

By December, it's expected the airport will be operating at 60 per cent of pre-COVID levels.

Meanwhile in Hobart, around 800 people are expected to travel to and from Melbourne, with 10 flights either way today.

The Qantas Group said it expected to be offering more than 16,000 seats per week on services to and from Tasmania in the lead-up to the school holiday period and over the summer break.

Nice to see something positive indeed.

Still no news from dear leader in Western Australia. My personal attention now turns from Monday to hoping for Christmas.

Who knows what will happen between now and then.

WA were introducing QR codes to restaurants a requirement by the 5 December, so likely not until after that date.

I guess everyone is now watching to see how SA handle their mini outbreak.

SA need to get the mix right, they went overboard with locking down all the state but they need some way to keep people alert.

Indeed and the information on the system is available here: CCIWA - Responding to COVID-19

So they delayed their press conference but were then crucified by WA media for being so slow.

They have now said border opening announcement (for VIC) will be early next week (Monday/Tuesday)

There was no comment on SA, or NSW for that matter....

WA faces calls to reopen Victoria border immediately after coronavirus four-week milestone reached

Western Australia is now the only state or territory with closed borders to Victoria after the latter recorded 28 days with no new COVID-19 cases.

The McGowan Government is weighing up fresh health advice on Victoria, which has reached the benchmark that is widely seen as eliminating coronavirus from the community.

WA Premier Mark McGowan says his Government will announce any decision on changed border restrictions with Victoria early next week.

But the AMA is calling on WA to quickly drop its border restrictions, arguing complacency in the west means people there are now probably more at risk from the virus than those in Victoria.

Tasmania today opened its border to Victoria, Queensland will reopen from Tuesday and the Northern Territory will open to Melburnians on Monday.

Four weeks with no community cases is the threshold the McGowan Government set for reconsidering the requirement for people coming from Victoria to quarantine for two weeks and for reclassifying the state as "very low risk".

Australian Medical Association (AMA) national president Omar Khorshid said Victoria had done a remarkable job.

"I think we can look forward to a situation where all our domestic borders are completely open across the country in the fairly near future," Dr Khorshid, who is based in Perth, said.

Power hungry. They must love toying with people's families, livelihoods, businesses and emotions.

I am grateful VA at least made some reward seats available for the Christmas/New Year period. The policies of both QF & VA for award bookings has been great, and while refunds are taking ages at least one is only out $30 at a time which you'll eventually get back instead of hundreds or thousands of dollars at a time that sit as credits...

Yes. Maybe you could come down with a sniffle and need to get tested Christmas Eve? Watch them run 😂
Christmas is fine I'll be spending it with people I like, it's just another family thing that I just can't be bothered with

Well that's easy then. No one wants to be contaminated prior to Christmas so be nice to yourself and maybe get a random test just to assuage any guilty conscience at skipping it (and hope like hell it's negative)

ACT had one case yesterday. Diplomat who flew into Sydney then drove back to Canberra to go into quarantine. Because they are not bound by the same rules as Australians she didn't have to quarantine in Sydney so becomes a statistic for us. 😟
I am expecting some cases from the repatriation flights (the first came in during the week).
Police and defence are minding them - no private security companies at all.

Once any state starts accepting international arrivals then positives are here to stay. Just hope they do it better than Vic and now SA. I’m hoping for a zero today here. All positives in SA from travellers are now going to a dedicated COVID hospital. Hoping we dodged a bullet.

SA has recorded two new cases linked to the Parafield cluster bringing the total number of cases to 33.

The two new cases are a child linked to the family at the centre of the cluster and a man in his thirties - a “casual contact” of a previous case.
Both have been in quarantine and the child has previously tested negative
