Ok. I consider that respite care not Aged care. And it’s limited in how long you can stay and how many beds are available.

Well that may be your definition but it is not the Federal Govs. My brother has the first category below of aged care, and my mother uses the third category from time to time.

Types of aged care services
Aged care services include:
  • care in your home
  • residential care in aged care (nursing) homes
  • short-term care (such as after-hospital and respite care)

Cut to Dr Young in QLD shuddering in horror as she has to get out a second special border clock, now she has two! One for NSW and one for VIC! So much work!

You obviously haven't been keeping up. They only meet once a month to review the situation so no need to worry about anything for weeks yet. ;)

And you really know I was referring to residential aged care, don’t you. The first ‘care in your home’ is not relevant in the COVID discussion with regards to clusters in aged care. Of course respite care happens but not to the same extent as residential services esp during COVID times where doing this would be a last resort.

According to her own special rules, she starts her border clocks from the first day of zero mystery cases. So the clocks have started for VIC (and only 3 days behind NSW now too! I'm sure everyone is so excited).

But yes you are right they are completely unable to review those clocks more than once a month in their special monthly meeting that can only happen once a month. To be clear only once a month, flat out can't compute anything more.

Unless they work really hard with their counterpart a la ACT which didn’t wait for the month end ....lol

Has anyone considered the impact of daylight saving on these clocks? We may not be able to review the border until the end of April if the clocks don’t support daylight saving time...

Having said that - the borders have been so politicised by Queensland that now the decision to open them would be a political one not a medical one and Queensland will go into caretaker mode shortly.

Well, I just think for someone hanging in front of their front gate it all seems a bit much and a sad place to be.

From the police perspective - how do they know it is his front gate if he refuses to give his name & address for them to check.

Within Australia roughly 1 house in 8 now has someone living in it that has served a custodial sentence > 12 months. Disturbingly large figure!

No, if someone has served 7 jail terms they only get counted once.

A typical Break & Enter merchant commits 18-20 jobs a month.

So, in this case, the police come across someone dressed in warm outdoor gear who says he'd just taken out a bin (unusual to rug up that much to take the bin 12m to the street), on his phone & refusing to provide details.

Suspicious to say the least.

In our area in Sydney (last of original Neighbourhood Watch zones still going between Sydney Harbour & Woollongong) we've led to 28 people being arrested for B&E and drug dealing since 2000 by reporting people acting in a similar manner to this story. 3 types of crime do not exist in our area as we encourage locals (cover around 2,600 dwellings) to look out their street facing windows every time they go by them. Especially at night/early morning.

Fun fact: most active criminals don't like long commutes - they live & work locally, often within 150m of where they live = less chance of police catching them in transit after B&E, car theft, drug dealing etc etc. So we continue to deliver a newsletter encouraging people to look out their windows & details of latest arrests/convictions etc.

Local crims read the newsletter and mostly decide to work outside our zone. One who had just got out from jail for 220+ (I think it was) B&E in the Inner West, moved into our area a week or so after the regular newsletter. He served 10 months on an eighteen month sentence btw.

Decided he did not want to walk far at all. Tried breaking into house with active (78yr old couple) NW supporters since the 1980s. Wife wakes up, hears sound of door being forced, wakes husband up, he calls police who WARN do not make a noise, turn on lights etc as that shows where you are & if drug affected they'll come to deal with you...

As we're known as NW area, police detour to transit through our area on purpose to fly the flag.

This time, in under two minutes 4 cars/wagons arrived without sirens and locked down the block & the street behind. One was dog squad Senior Sergeant with dog, who'd previously been in our area, travelling on the Eastern Distributor & detoured to help.

Police told couple that he was walking down their driveway & now turn on lights, make a noise (as still not through the door). The B&E guy, ran off up the driveway looking over his shoulder at the house & bounced off the rather large Senior Sergeant, fell down to find a friendly german shepherd smiling at him (how the local area commander described it).

LAC commander went on to explain that as he was on parole, they gave him a chaffeur driven ride back to jail & did not have to lose 4 hours processing him for the magistrates court that night. In NSW, typically it takes longer for police to enter all the permutations of data/information required than for a magistrate to release the suspect.

So, can totally understand why the Victorian Police wanted to know his name & address.

More details were provided after I made the initial comment. Seems he wasn’t outside his gate with the bin so 🤷‍♀️

The two border clocks probably stop working in caretaker mode  .

I'm honestly half serious, they will probably next say they can't possibly hold the monthly meeting in caretaker mode.

Thanks for the clarification. It certainly seems to have been what we saw. It was indeed probably self isolation at the hotel?

But certainly there was no security. We walked past their door often enough ...

And we now all know that private security firms are apparently "cowboys". :(

The media reports, for VIC, even today, are still about the failure of hotel security. Who was responsible for it etc. Yet there was a time when hotel security wasn't even done.

It is hard to understand why the media focus is such.

Once it was identified that a little over 90% of all CV cases in Victoria could be traced to the one hotel room with the mother & 3 children with human waste spread around, leading to the hotel night manager becoming infected while chaperoning Vic Health workers into the room - not actually linked to a private security guard being the conduit for transmission...

Yet the fact that it was a full-time hotel manager does not seem to provide any political gain/leverage - so it is conveniently dismissed.

True enough, a Sydney-based private security company who is also (still) contracted to provide guards to the most used Sydney Hotel did not live up to its contractual terms, and should be made accountable etc. But that did not lead to the Melbourne outbreak.

The first ‘care in your home’ is not relevant in the COVID discussion with regards to clusters in aged care.

Why not? My brother actually owns a villa unit in a Retirement Village. The Village does not offer aged care services. Those in the village that have aged care services do so under category 1. There have been aged care clusters in Retirement Villages as as well as in Residential Age Care Facilities.

So I disagree with you that that clusters in his age care category are not relevant.

Those with home aged care often share carers who go to multiple properties. So it is a real issue whether they are in a village, or a stand alone property. Clusters can occur in both settings. It is certainly a matter that we have had many discussions over with my brother's two paid aged carers (both of whom have been exceptional and have gone above and beyond), one of whom also cares for another person.

Curious that articles on the 3 Qld residents are identifying where they were born (Tanzania, Sudan & Sierra Leone) and providing less space in the article to what criminal action is being taken (hopefully) by Victoria over their illegal Airbnb party they hosted while in Melbourne.

I wonder how much that party helped magnify the Melbourne outbreak?

With the large number of unidentified sources in Melbourne - it does make you wonder how many of those cases come under the heading "I am not going to dob in my friends - it un-Ostralian!"

It is hard to understand why the media focus is such.

It's part of the overall story, media needs fairly simple stories, and centred around a villain. Really not much different to a Disney movie, with its villains and heroes. 🤣 Hence the focus on "who made the decision" (to engage private security). They need a villain! And a scalp or three. They've extracted their first scalp, no doubt more to come.

is this a correct statement from the Inquiry or media rewrite?
Hotel quarantine inquiry hears Daniel Andrews’ government ‘responsible for deaths of 768 people and 18,000 infections ’

I'm seeing similar quotes:
"Counsel assisting Ben Ihle tells hotel quarantine inquiry it can “comfortably find” Victorian Government scheme IS responsible for - 768 deaths - 18,000 infections @newscomauHQ"

I think nationally we won’t stay under 10 today because of that pesky ship off WA.

But good results domestically.
Surprise, surprise. WA reports no new cases today, because the other results of the ship still not known.

So it looks like Australia will be 5 new cases today. Technically waiting for NT, Tas and SA.
