And even Tasmania will consider opening the borders for those from "safe" States by the end of October.

However in that report he also said this-
"Mr Gutwein also said Tasmania wasn't in a position to receive flights including Australians returning from overseas because it didn't have an international airport. "

Though I have just heard the PM on Chilli FM radio saying although he doesn't believe charter flights are necessary he would consider them to bring returning travellers to Tasmania, the ACT and NT.

A workmate has already booked and said the airfares are not cheap!!

I'll put money on QLD backflipping on NSW in the next few weeks too, the amount of damage it is doing to the government up here is going to force the issue. Plus of course NSW cases are beyond low and controlled.

Allegedly (if mainstream media is to be believed) the QLD gov has been doing a lot of polling on the matter. I presume any actions forthcoming and the timing of those actions will depend heavily on the results of that polling. Governments are often driven by sentiment and impact on their popularity rather than pure economic factors.

Whether the specially commissioned polls are showing what many AFFers believe or something vastly different is something I don't think we are privy to. Any leaks anywhere?

That’s a play to get the Feds to supply Federal Police and immigration etc personnel to HBA. He’s probably got a few more things on his shopping list.

As for opening border at the end of October ... sorry, I’m cynical, as usual when it comes to Dear Leader. End of October timeline gives him plenty of scope to reverse it should a case or two emerge in SA, NT, ACT while still feeding the chooks now with a “aren’t I nice” story. Otherwise, why not SA, ACT, NT now, or at the end of September?

It is pretty clear he doesn't have much faith in the Tasmanian health system to cope with.... well anything from his press conference today! Very weird word choices today...?!

Oh damn what a pity sure he is devastated not to be able to 'easily' help out quickly. Oh well  Cool story.

Although recall a few months ago 'HBA being ready in 5 minutes to set up direct flights to NZ'..... Yea right.

NSW mystery case watch.

Same as yesterday with the border case still a question mark as at today’s reporting this morning.

So it’s either 1 day or 9 days since last mystery case.

Just talking to someone who wants her daughter to come back to SA from Vic where she is studying.

SA is not allowing any Victorians to come to SA so she is flying to Darwin and doing 2 weeks quarantine up there and then flying to Adelaide. The world has gone mad!!
She at least may enjoy Darwin. What is the quarantine like there? For an outlier it seems far more sophisticated in handling this issue than SA. But of course, then there is Qld and WA 🤷‍♀️

A bit of trivia:

NSW retook the lead yesterday for most tests in an Australian State/Territory....of course it has a population advantage.

Is she into chasing status? :)

Horrible value I know with the hotel cost but some of these enforced routings look like runs I might do...

Polling doesn't mean anything, especially a poll commissioned by any group with any sort of basis. Polling replies can be twisted to show whatever the group conducting the poll wants the poll to show.
If QLD.gov is polling to see if the borders should be closed, then they'll get a response showing the borders should be closed.

I give them more credence than that. They are not stupid.

I think you are confusing polling for public consumption with polling for internal consumption.

If the polls were for public consumption they would have been designed to tell a story and leaked to the press yonks ago to justify their stance on the border issue.

Polls for internal consumption would be deliberaty designed to carefully ascertain whether the policies are hurting them or confirming their stance on the borders.

The results of such polls will generally only be made publically avaiable if such results suit the purposes of the entity paying for the poll.

And that is possibly why they haven't been released and we may see some movement on the border issue.

It’s no coincidence within a few days QLD has dropped its nonsensical border with ACT and also ‘floated’ the halving of the ‘extremely‘ controversial 28 days no community transmission with just the ‘highly’ controversial 14 days no community transmission benchmark for NSW to jump over.

Sentiment is definitely turning slowly against them up here with the daily onslaught on the news of people impacted tragically, and all the double standards going on with the rich and famous.

I think I can guess what the polls were saying.

That is up on Tuesday then because that is the benchmark SA's CMO is using to open to NSW.

And I believe NSW is up to 11 days as of yesterday subject to confirmation of another false positive.

I’m not getting too excited yet after the letdown this week but Marshall seemed very positive still in regards to this Tuesday and for the first time I actually heard Spurrier talk about the NSW border opening very soon. Hopefully they both can force Stevens to make a decision on Tuesday

Perhaps Dear Leader is worried that no-one actually wants to go to Tasmania?

I heard Nicola say it today. But always with a caveat.
