CovidSafe App helping...

Number of successes' with COVIDSafe app: Nick Coatsworth
The app has been a real point of contention in recent months.

COVIDSafe has had a number of recent and notable successes.

The most significant one was the identification, not just of some contacts, but of an entire transmission event so to speak that wasn't identified through the contact tracing interview. That involved some 544 contacts in the west of Sydney, being identified through the app.

And of those, two of those tested positive in the short space of time afterwards.

Slight glimmer of hope in the Victoria figures with the 394 new cases which led to an increase in 376 cases in the overall tally of cases since the start of the pandemic (after corrections), but the increase in active cases was a much lower 46, with some cases from a couple of weeks ago either recovering or no longer counting as active cases.

Speaking to my father this arvo he said the local gossip today from Gundagai was that there are 15 new cases in Wagga and 2 in Griffith that will go on tomorrows figures. If so I wonder if it stems back from the family in Wagga that had 5 cases. Really hope there is no truth to it

SA has zero new cases today.....8 active cases remaining.
Apparently two positive tests were received but the tests were done on the other side of the border, they were essential services (transport drivers maybe?), they had self isolated and were back presumably in Victoria when results came out.

Um, one of them was a truck driver who whilst infected delivered freight to a number of places in Adelaide and also had another person in the cab with him. SA Health believe that he wore a mask, had minimal contact with people and slept in the truck but needless to say they are checking out all contacts

Media reported it differently but yours makes more sense. Updated on Marshalls FB

There were ZERO new cases of COVID-19 in SA today.

SA Health has noted that a male in his 30s who travelled to South Australia from Victoria as an essential freight worker, received an interstate positive COVID-19 test result whilst in South Australia. There was one close contact identified who travelled with this person. However, upon entering South Australia, both men followed all necessary protocols and pose no risk to the South Australian community.

In addition, another male in his 30s, who has travelled from NSW, has tested positive to COVID-19 in South Australia. He was a confirmed case in NSW and was released from isolation as per standard national protocols. He was not considered infectious whilst in South Australia and the current result represents an old infection.

Neither of these cases will count towards South Australian COVID-19 case numbers.

Restrictions on all nursing homes in Qld bar the one in Pinjarra Hills have now been lifted.

Dr Young has talked about movements around the border communities in her address and asked those near the border to consider how they would manage in a situation where the border was completely closed, ie no movement across the border, even for those in a border community. She asserted that it was not an imminent decision, but would want border residents to have thought through issues if the virus continued to spread further north from Newcastle.

322 in Victoria overnight but sadly 19 deaths. Vic Health is tweeting the results before the presser now. Still too early to say this is over the worst as the lockdown won't be being reflected in numbers yet.

Deaths were always going to tail behind the case numbers. I assume we're seeing the fallout of those 700+ days coming through.

NSW Health started doing that 2 weeks ago, NSW Premier also did less frequent press conferences. Maybe Vic are getting a feeling of OK on the numbers, does Vic Premier get a day off from a press conference?

Though various controls have come in at various times.

Ie Facemasks on 23 July and so that is probably a factor now.

Also abattoirs and aged care homes were being focused on.

It is a ray of hope though - once the lockdown gets reflected we should see numbers really being driven down. I do hope that once there are only small numbers that it can be controlled . Track record not good, but maybe now previous problems have been fixed and people will be more compliant?

She doesn't have much to say as they don't want to put in more restrictions, so what value can she add I guess...

The problem with the NSW outbreak is that it is so geographically spread. If the cases were all popping up in a just few suburbs, they absolutely would have locked down those areas by now.

But because the spread across NSW is far and wide, from all ends of Sydney and state, a blunt statewide approach is going to cause a lot of hurt...

They are in a really tough situation.... so they wait.

NSW records 14 new cases as community transmission in school clusters continue to grow

NSW has recorded 14 new coronavirus cases from less than 20,000 tests, Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said today, as the number of cases linked to Sydney schools spikes.

Five of the new cases were linked to Tangara School for Girls at Cherrybrook in Sydney's north-west, including four students and a household contact.
