Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

“The mother of one of the women said she understood public anger amid fears about a second wave of community transmission — but felt her daughter had been unfairly singled out as a "serious criminal".

Speaking to the ABC from hotel quarantine, Ms Lasu's mother Aida said she was upset that her daughter faced public vilification when other wrongdoers under COVID-19 restrictions had not been named and shamed”.

“Imagine if you have something like that, you don't have any support and people treat you like a serious criminal," she said.

"Nobody wants to give you support. She's very sad. She is my daughter. She's not an animal."

ABC quote.
The facts that we know are that she entered Queensland and did not quarantine. Attended a Doctors clinic and was told to get a covid test. She went out. Days later she got a covid test. Went out. The test was positive. Thats enough in the midst of a pandemic. Whatever else happened will unfold in the fullness of time. And mother gets no say in that.

Sorry but your facts are wrong.NSW has not stopped hospital staff working at hospitals just across the border from working.
However if those staff are working at hospitals outside the border zone they have to self isolate for 14 days on return.
The hospital complaining was Wangaratta which is nearly 70km from Wodonga and nearly 50KM from the nearest NSW border crossing.Of course the media plays up the interstate rivalry.

Beg to differ.

After the blanket media coverage EVERYONE living in NSW who works at Wangaratta Hospital was given the same exemption they had before the rule change applying to the rest of cross-border return trips.

No media beat-up - just a bureaucratic stuff-up (again). Something we in NSW have seen a few times since CV began (Ruby Princess, Aspen Medical, Newmarch, Jetstar flights not checked, Doctors connecting to other states at Sydney Airport instead of going into quarantine).

BTW - NSW Govt gave contract for most used quarantine Hotel in Sydney to the same company at the centre of the Melbourne Hotel debacle. NSW Govt not announced any re-checking of that company's bona fides.

Well, I DO have sympathy for the mother and the other innocents in this. Now, the police and other investigators can do job without our “assistance”. Let’s move back on topic.

It’s natural that the mother will try to support her daughter, but they can’t expect too much sympathy for what has been done in such a reckless manner.

Yes, as a parent of course you would want to care for your child. But it helps no one to come into the public domain, in fact it makes it worse. It is also hoped that only the sister develops the virus. I reckon its on topic because there may be more family members impacted as thats the reality of this virus.

However, perhaps it will be announced that someone else in this group has now had a positive test from dining at one of the named restaurants in attendance with one of the women.

It’s probably on topic, but I’m over it and they have been charged.....let authoritiesdo their job.

Qld announced 1 case, a relative of someone else (untested it sounds) that attended the Sunnybank restaurant.

The positive case today has a link to aged care and that place has just implemented its covidsafe plan.

Queensland has recorded a new case of coronavirus believed to be linked to one of the women who travelled to Melbourne, allegedly lied to return home, and then tested positive.

A 27-year-old man from Bellbird Park is in quarantine after his infection was confirmed, and chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young suspects he contracted it from a relative.
That relative dined at Matong Sein, a Korean restaurant, in Sunnybank on July 23 at the same time as one of the Victoria border jumpers.

“We do believe, as I said, that he contracted the infection from one of his relatives who attended that restaurant in Sunnybank on 23 July, which was one of those venues that the first case who went down to Melbourne attended,” Dr Young said.

“We are fairly comfortable that that's probably where he's got it but we will do contact tracing for him now as to who he might have come into contact with.”

If this is accurate....and assuming 24 hour virus (transmission to infectious) then the attendee was infectious from 25/7 and the new positive was infectious from27/7....four days of risk for the aged care.

edit: it seems the attendee is the aged care worker...so 6 days of risk

You should as I said read down to the bottom of the page you linked last where the CEO admitted many of the staff were from Melbourne and couldn't leave due to lockdown. You also said a hospital just across the border in your initial comment on this.Wangaratta is not just across the border.
And in that link is also this.
The Victorian Government told the ABC it was in urgent discussions with NSW Health "to ensure patient care is not compromised as a result and to minimise the impact on staff and service delivery".
Maybe that is why things changed-the governments were actually talking to each other and co operating.Though that doesn't make a good media story does it.Liberal premier ignores ALP state is a much better storyline.

In the same vein you also said this.
Then Gladys complains that Qld did not personally notify her before changing the restrictions for entry into Qld for people living in Greater Sydney starting in a f5 days time - pot, kettle, black.

AP didn't contact Gladys as well when she did a press announcement that she had asked NSW to move the NSW border south. Gladys replied she wasn't moving the NSW border but AP could move her border north.AP's comment-The NSW government has refused to move the border. No mention that she wasn'y going to move the QLD border.Maybe that is pot, kettle black?

Correction : it seem the attendee is aged care worker..... ....so 25/7 the aged care is at risk ......6 days

from ABC Covid live blog

  • A 27-year-old man who is believed to have contracted COVID-19 from a relative is the only new case in Queensland.
  • Queensland's Chief Health Office, Jeannette Young, said the person who is believed to be the source of the infection works at an aged care facility.
  • It is believed that person contracted the virus after visiting the Madtongsan Korean restaurant in Sunnybank, on July 23.
  • The restaurant is one of the identified areas visited by teenage women who had returned from Melbourne and had the virus.
  • The Bolton Clarke aged care facility in the west Brisbane suburb of Pinjarra Hills, has now activated their COVID-safe plan.
  • Queensland conducted a record number of COVID-19 tests on Thursday, 9,076.

WRT Queensland case, if they contracted virus forma relative who was at restaurant same time as the border jumpers, then doesn't that imply that the relative must also have Covid-19?

Yes that’s the implication......the assumption is that it’s a 24 hour virus, so the positive case only acquired it about from 25/7 (And infectious from about 27/7)

even worse though, the relative of the positive works at an aged care facility....and they were infectious from 25/7....so 6 days at an aged care.

Well hopefully they had already implemented their Covidsafe plan including having made all necessary preparations, as otherwise they may now be caught out by now playing catch up.

Now I don't know what the Qld version is but it may be similar to the guidelines that are in Vic and there would be federal standards and requirements that are the same.

For example in Vic The Coronavirus (COVID-19) Residential Aged Care Facilities Plan for Victoria (Word)
Version 3.0, 1 July 2020 provides guidelines to assist RACFs to support their healthcare workers, residents, families and visitors to prepare for, prevent and manage cases and outbreaks of coronavirus (COVID-19). If the reporting is accurate a number of facilities in Victoria would not all seem to have followed appropriately all of what was in these guidelines. The two facilities that I have dealt with during the pandemic in Vic have as best I know have based on our interactions, regular and timely updates from them and our visits and observations as well as what our MIL states. ie My mother who was briefly in Respite Care (pre Second Wave) had a doctor become symptomatic after he had been there. The facility went in to full lockdown till the doctor was diagnosed as having had the flu and not Covid 19. Where my MIL is in full time placement they enacted a heightened state of control on 29th June when it was clear that a community spread outbreak was occurring.

Make a very BIG and PUBLIC example of them - perhaps a short stint behind bars awaiting a hearing?
No, just make them pay the cleanup bill even if it takes the rest of their lives -- a permanent reminder! and if they are on Govt benefits, they should still be paying part of their i
ncome.

I think we need to pray (and I’m not religious) that this news report is wrong.

If I’ve connected dots correctly it is one of the three women who have been extensively commented on

Victoria

627 more
8 deaths, 2 in 50s, 3 in 70s, 3 in 80s, 4 in aged care

I actually think the positive is not a relative of one of the three charged.

Edit: if it was, the aged care would have activated their covidsafe plan yesterday, not today.

Nsw is 21 more

Of the 21 new cases:

  • two are linked to the funeral gatherings cluster
  • three are associated with the Our Lady of Lebanon cluster
  • two are associated with the Thai Rock Wetherill Park cluster
  • six are associated with The Apollo restaurant in Potts Point
  • two cases are associated with the Mounties Club
  • two are returned travellers in hotel quarantine
  • one case was acquired in Victoria
  • two are under investigation
  • one case is linked to a known case that is under investigation.

not a good day

Well the positivity rate still is bouncing around though today's was half of yesterday's massive 3.48 % One presumes in large part due to how cohorts of tests are prioritised.

So 70% more test results, but 86% of the new cases reported yesterday.
