Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Of course. When has that ever been in doubt?
It's not been in doubt, it's pointing out the factual nature that any social grouping, religious grouping, racial grouping that results in people actually coming together in a group results in a higher probability of contagion.

If the pastafarian religion emphasized celebrating the spaghetti monster could only be done where pasta consumption was conducted 1.5m apart and no ceremony was valid if more than 10 people gathered, it would be much less likely for any spread.

Which leads to the observation that the data tells you some religious groups (and in Israel and New York, Hasidic Jews are one such community affected severely [1]) processes are going to end up with more of them contracting COVID19 than others.

I do appreciate that most people are trying pretty hard to keep to the principles of differing between correlation and causation and avoid heading down the slippery slope to racism and discrimination.

and avoid heading down the slippery slope to racism and discrimination.

One thing, in policy and communication responses, there's a fine line between being culturally sensitive and being racist. Applying different rules based on race, religion or socioeconomic status is discriminatory, for sure. Using different communication techniques, emphasising different things, and possibly even subtly different approaches to enforcement, probably is not.

Veering 0T a bit more, when I had casuals in either USA or in Aus the one problem they had was that sometimes it was impossible to tell them whether they would have a job the following Monday. I really felt for them and, longer term planning for holidays and getting a mortgage etc was affected by that temporary employment. Sometimes they would plan a break between those casual positions which then would be inconvenient for me.

And of course in America, their health insurance issue became vital and was attached to the job.

When one is essentially retired comparing a desire for casual work to the lack of permanent work for someone who is in the workforce as a younger person is a bit self centred.
On the rare occasions I was able to convert them from casual to permanent, they were particularly keen for that to happen in December because then they would’ve had the benefit of 25% loading through the year and then get Christmas holiday pay.

The current Victorian restrictions are a bit of a dog's breakfast. We have bookings for both coming weekends for exclusive use of our holiday house by separate groups (both >10). On Sunday both groups wanted to cancel, by Tuesday morning both had reconsidered as the language on the website and the legal instrument in force (Restricted Activities No 10) permitted up to 20 people per booking at places of accommodation including holiday houses (airbnbs etc)

Now today the website has dropped it to 10 as maximum, but the legal instrument, which is still in force has not changed and indicates 20. If there are are contradictions between advice and law on a simple thing like this - the whole thing is likely a dogs breakfast. Someone needs to sort this s*&@(# out.

Just as an aside ....with the gathering sizes social distancing rules are still meant to apply (or at least in Vic as I must admit I am not precise on what each state is ( WA probably the freest?).

But from what one can read the groups sharing holiday homes (whether owned or rented) are families and/or friends who do not actually physically distance.

Many seem to interpret that gathering size means to mix up to that number with no heed paid to physical distancing.

A group sharing a house will presumably be sharing common rooms, bathrooms, toilets etc.....plus sitting on couches etc. ie no physically distancing and most likely no through cleaning etc. Ceratinly no fase masks will be worn.

So if anyone in the 5, 10, 20 is infected...then after a weekend together most will have been exposed.

Of course. When has that ever been in doubt?

Never here, but sometimes political correctness dictates that certain topics are danced around, don't-mention-the-war, so clarity and communication suffers. Oh! "don't-mention-the-war" has been taken off air, hasn't it, so even that's now unmentionable. :(

Just saw a few of the MEL affected areas residents interviewed on SBS. They sounded like a bunch of the USA idiots who feel it’s just the flu and not serious, don’t intend to get tested unless they get sick or maybe think it’s an infringement on their liberties.
I need to see this video but your description of it makes me livid.

It wasn’t all of them of course. Most people are queueing up to get tested. It’s just a few people who are idiots, not that I can say what is the percentage of idiots.

Unfortunately it only takes one or two and then the virus is off and running, which is why it’s inevitable it will continue to spread, everywhere.

So National Cabinet what is the actual plan to live with this?

They don't have a plan. They just keep handing out billions to the unemployed who did nothing before, still do nothing, use copious amounts of methyl-amphetamine buy all the dunny roll and pasta, but most importantly will vote for them at the next election.

The Australian is rather scathing of the manner in which quarantine has not been handled in Victoria.
