Oh dear

“Following three emergency meetings today, Premier Mark McGowan has announced that this morning a security guard in his 20s who works in hotel quarantine tested positive to COVID-19.
He had already had a vaccination. He and his housemates have been moved into hotel quarantine.
Mr McGowan said he may have been infectious in the community.
Case 1001 lives in Nollamara, and during his potentially infectious period he lived with seven housemates. Two have returned positive test results as well.
One of these cases is a visitor from Canberra.”
Here we go again. We have to get off this zero tolerance roller coaster.

Is it not high time that 13 months into HQ that more use is made of technology (cameras, sensors and the like) to police HQ rather than an army of security guards (that require at least 5 or 6 guards per floor to cover a week)? I’ve said it before there are way too many people involved in HQ.

I guess this is where facilities like Howard Springs come in, but any more facilities like that are considered not necessary.

I think they have "modernised" in WA quarantine hotels to get staff off the floors themselves but to what extent I do not know

The detail behind this one ought to be good.

The last lockdown was totally pointless and a lot of people in WA are starting to question the government tactics and response. If you don't lock down for 2 incubation periods I would argue it is a pointless endeavour. Get your contact tracing sorted and move on.

The gist appears to be that currently there is no lockdown but masks must be worn outside again. The risk of infection of others is considered lower because the mask mandate was in force and restaurants were only able to do take-away etc up until he was diagnosed. He had been given his first covid vaccine a week or so ago. His function in the hotel was to monitor CCTV on a floor while wearing PPE so they are still not sure how he became infected. Saliva tests on 23/24 & 25 were negative. He did not work again until 29th and did the full test which returned a positive result.

But remember what Mark said just the other day? You can't have it linger!

"Lockdowns are a method that does help prevent the spread of the virus very quickly, and it gets the matter over with as quickly as we possibly can," he said.

"The Western Australia model has been we try and prevent the virus from coming in, with borders. If we have any spread of the virus we try and kill it quickly. That's a far better model than allowing the virus to linger in the community."

...

"They had three months – three months – of measures put in place. It cost the NSW economy $3.2 billion," he said.

"I'd rather kill the virus quickly over the course of a long weekend than three months of restrictions."

This guy's plan (if you call it that) changes day by day or hour by hour.

Mavis the WA contact tracer is dusting off her landline phone as we speak to help out. Just waiting for the call from the invisible WA CHO to give the order.

They put him in front of the camera the other day. Good to know he is still breathing, but if he's fronting up in WA you know the government realises it's in trouble.

As for Mavis - sadly unavailable as she has training to operate the push button phone that arrived on Friday. The old rotary was getting on.

Perth Derby tomorrow. No way McClown won’t allow a full house of 60,000 football supporters
Well it's 75% cap so 45,000.

Another take I've seen on this, not that I agree, is that it's indicative of a change of policy and direction from the government. I can see the thinking but can't agree.

A change in a week?
Only last week they shut down for 1 case and played sports at empty stadiums.
This week we see 3 cases that have been loose in the community for days with various places visited and they are playing a football game with 45k in attendance. What has changed in a week?

This weekend is not a long weekend for WA so no need to lock down.

Good luck to them. What I’ve learnt of late Is nobody outside of that state cares one bit.

They wanted him now they can deal with him.
This wouldn't happen but it would be so funny. Get everyone seated at Optus, then one minute before bouncedown, on big screens state by order of Mark McGowan and Labour government, everyone to leave the stadium within next hour. Bouncedown delayed one hour and game will be played without spectators.

The stadium isn't even that risky. Thousands packed on trains and buses in close proximity to and from the ground is...not ideal.

So much for WAs amazing handling of the pandemic 🙄. And he still had the nerve to criticize NSW this week. I can honestly say that there are few places I’d rather be in the world at the moment than Sydney. At least we have stability.

I'd say it is because Perth is still transitioning out of lockdown. The fact that there were a series of restrictions over the last week may have been enough to keep it in check.
If this had happened outside a period or restrictions, Perth would be in lockdown now.
