Zero cases in Queensland today. Lets hope the rest of the country has a good day too.
Qld's story from today is actually better than that. Yesterday's positive, which was an unknown source, has tested negative on her second test - basically her first test was a false positive. Which is a very good thing as there's no unexplained chain of transmission sitting with her...

Even Melbourne hospitals not seemingly doing the right thing by their staff....

Melbourne nurse begged for better protection from coronavirus

A young Melbourne nurse says she pleaded for better personal protective equipment from hospital management because she feared contracting COVID-19.

"I had requested an N95 respirator mask while I was caring for COVID-19 patients but was told it was unnecessary and that there wasn't the science to back it up," she said.

Her worst fears came true — she contracted the virus.

"I don't know when I am going to see my baby again," she said.

She is part of a growing number of practitioners who fear they are not protected while at work.

Hmmm except I can confirm with personal knowledge 3 people tested on Brisbane on Monday still waiting for their results. So not celebrating just yet.

Not celebrating anything. Just recognising that any previously open chain that's definitively closed down is a good thing. I think there are still expectations of further cases emanating from the "Shopper 2". But this would have been a completely new chain - it's good that it's not.

EDIT: Anecdata - Little Miss Gremlin was tested by Qld Health on Saturday with results not back until Tuesday. Symptomatic but no attendance in named hotspot.

Pure speculation would be the person who dined at 3 venues in the Hunter region......but if not then Unknown source/community transmission?!?!
Another school closed in NSW as community transmission case detected

A high school in Newcastle, NSW, has closed today after a confirmed case of coronavirus in the community.

St Pius X High School at Adamstown will be shut for the rest of the week to allow for cleaning and urgent contact tracing to take place.

It is not known if the case is a student or another member of the community and no source has been identified.

There are two cases. A student at the school who plays for the Newcastle Jets under 15 side and a close contact of him who has attended several pubs.E56FB385-80A5-42B9-90A1-F44D62C6BC3E.png

NSW Coronavirus spread: Attendees at three Newcastle pubs told to self-isolate after new positive cases

Attendees at three pubs in Newcastle have been directed to immediately self-isolate after it was confirmed a man in his 20s who later tested positive for COVID-19 had attended last week.

Hunter New England Local Health District is urging anyone who attended the following venues at the specified times to immediately self-isolate and seek testing:

  • The Bennett Hotel at Hamilton on Friday
  • The Greenroof at Hamilton on Friday
  • Hopsmith Sports Bar, Wests New Lambton on Sunday
The Bennett Hotel and The Greenroof both posted on Facebook that staff at their venues are in self-isolation and are being tested today.

Qld home quarantine seems to be in action....

High quarantine compliance in Queensland

Queensland Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said officers had checked on people in home quarantine in the state.

Here's what he had to say:
"So 253 have been checked — 250 have been completely compliant and three remain under investigation.

"So we're quite pleased that we're seeing over 98% compliance with home quarantine in this state which has not been replicated in other jurisdictions."

COVID-19 test results
Here you'll find information about COVID-19 test results for those who have been tested at a Queensland Health facility (hospital, fever clinic or collection centre).
Anyone who has had testing performed at Mater Pathology, QML, Sullivan & Nicolaides Pathology, MedLab or 4Cyte Pathology can get their results from their referring GP.
Are you still waiting for results?
We are experiencing an increase in testing and request your patience for results.
If you have been waiting for results and it has been 48 to 72 hours since your test, you can contact Pathology Queensland on 1800 472 847 to confirm that you have a negative result.
This service operates Monday to Friday, 7am to 5.30pm and Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 5pm.

Even Melbourne hospitals not seemingly doing the right thing by their staff....

I note you pluralised.

The nurses that I know who are in hospitals if they are in a ward with any Covid Probable or Covid Positive (confirmed) patients have to wear N95 Duckbill Masks. If in a respirator room with Covid positive patient higher again protocols are followed.

So I am quite surprised that the unamed hospital was not doing likewise.

Based on further news, it seems Qld Health will be doing many rounds of further testing.

"So we're doing a PCR [polymerase chain reaction] test, a serology test today and that will tell us one way or the other."

The 68-year-old woman from Ipswich is expected to have her results back later today.

Victoria’s press conference might be a bit .............I personally will be giving it a miss.

Andrews to face tough grilling

The Victorian Premier is expected to face a tough grilling at Thursday's media conference after it was revealed commentary outside of the official inquiry into the government's botched hotel quarantine was allowed.
At an emergency briefing on Wednesday, Judge Jennifer Coate made it very clear that the board of inquiry was "not a court".
"Under law, unlike a court, there is no general restriction or prohibition which would prevent a person from commenting publicly or answering questions to which they know the answers on matters which are the 10 subjects of examination by this board of inquiry," she said.

That is exactly what happened yesterday in SA too.

Serious health problems in 30s are uncommon enough that it can be quite difficult to maintain confidentiality if any details are given (even without any journalistic digging that might follow from a case like this)
Not sure that’s true - I know a number of under 30s and early 30s with auto immune diseases (including my 28 year old daughter), which immediately put them into a higher risk category.

I would love to know the health profile of the person who died but if the family said they didn’t want details released then that should be enough. I don’t believe we have any “right” to know - let them grieve in peace :(

NSW Coronavirus spread: South-west Sydney restaurant closes after diner tests positive

A Korean BBQ buffet restaurant in south-west Sydney has closed after a diner which attended subsequently tested positive last week.

"Last night at 9:00pm we were contacted by Liverpool Public Health to inform us that a patron with COVID-19 dined at BBQ City Buffet Bankstown on Saturday 1 August ," the restaurant said in a Facebook post. "If you were at our venue during that time please immediately isolate and get tested."

The venue will be "closed until further notice" and all staff will be tested while the venue is deep cleaned, BBQ City Buffet management said.

Ummmm the comorbity factors for coronavirus include immuno suppressed conditions that are definitely not uncommon for people in their 30's...

Not to mention being overweight / obese.

I won't be.

Accountability has been sorely missed in all this. Such as the government decrying the sitting of parliament. An insult to the citizenry to proclaim that the parliament should set an example. Bulldust - we know the restrictions and we know why they are there, but we also know that parliament is important and absolutely needs to sit so that those making decisions can answer for them.

I feel for the government because there is a huge challenge and has been for some time, but there have been failings and they need to be examined both within and outside of parliament.
