Fears NSW Premier has ‘sidelined’ NSW CHO health advice

NSW’s Premier Dominic Perrottet’s decision to further ease restrictions for the state from Monday has continued to attract criticism, with Australia’s top doctor warning “excessive deaths” may follow.

President of the Australian Medical Association (AMA), Dr Omar Khorshid, said he was “very concerned” about the shift in NSW’s approach to managing Covid-19 and the “potential sidelining of public health advice”.

Dr Khorshid said the fact the changes were announced without chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant being present and renaming the Crisis Cabinet the Economic Recovery Committee suggests health advice will “no longer guide the NSW government”.

“The AMA is concerned that the decisions taken in NSW since the change of leadership signal a very different approach to that taken under the leadership of former Premier Gladys Berejiklian.

I prefer Nyunggai Warren Mundine's take on it in the Australian today:
Australians are like kids on a long car ride repeatedly asking when they’ll get there, with Mum fibbing it will be soon to tide them over until the next stop. I’m tired of being treated like a child; tired of rule by highly paid bureaucrats and their complex, contradictory and sometimes absurd edicts.

This is exactly how I feel too. I might keep a copy of that and use it when necessary. Thankyou.

The President of the AMA is not Australia's top doctor. With pandemics not even in the top 100.
You just have to go to the spokesperson for AMAQ.Successive releases from her said that antivaxxers were endangering the rollout of the vaccines by making appointments and not keeping them. The next one blamed the poor rollout on a shortage of the Pfizer vaccine.Did they waste all those doses not used because of the anti vaxxers?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Whenever I see Dr Omar Khorshid interviewed he never shows any optimism just doom and gloom and caution. But he is WA based, so not living the same reality as those in NSW, ACT and Vic.

All my family and close friends are fully vaccinated even my friends kids in the 12-15 age bracket (2nd doses given this week), so I have no fear mixing with the people I care to see, and i see no reason why anyone who is double jabbed should be hiding away locked down.

Ive lost over 18 months of living, so am no longer not willing to sacrifice anymore, few are still willing to just stay home.

Happy to report that Tasmania is actually gearing up for the increase in cases that should occur when the States borders open.In this hospital they are doubling the number of negative pressure rooms and by the end of this month opening another medical ward.

The State has also released it's plans for lockdown which they will almost certainly institute at some point in time.

This story just underlines that with large number of cases in Australia now we are much more likely to see new variants emerge here than previously:
Thankfully the "new Delta variant" appears to have the same health outcomes as what's already been in the community.

Victorian police investigating after Daniel Andrews filmed without face mask

Victoria Police is investigating whether Premier Daniel Andrews breached COVID-19 directions after he was filmed approaching journalists outside Parliament without a face mask.

"Victoria Police are currently assessing a video circulating on social media of Premier Daniel Andrews walking across a car park in Melbourne without a mask on, 7 October," a spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said they would not comment further as the investigation was ongoing.

All Victorians over age 12 must wear a face mask when leaving their home and must wear them in both indoor and outdoor settings, unless they have an exemption.

Politicians and journalists are exempt from wearing masks while working to respond to questions at press conferences or communicate over broadcast mediums.

People who do not wear a face mask when required and do not have a lawful exemption can be fined $200.

Mary Louise McLockdown is the one that chills my soul, absolutely one that would press the big red button that says "lock all australians doors and windows" if she had it.

I don't agree with much of the expert opinion of Professor McLaws, but with media savvy (and WHO credentials) made an AFR power list.

I wince when she on the radio. Almost guaranteed to undermine vaccine strategies/confidence and/or push for even greater restrictions each time she is on

Her answer to everything is rapid antigen tests regardless of the question.

"So Mary-Louise, how do you think Australia should repair its relationship with France?"

-"Rapid Antigen Tests"
