More exposure sites for Brisbane.

A lot more massage parlours 😆

Westfield Chermside outlets, Brisbane massage parlours added to exposure list

Numerous outlets within Westfield Chermside, several Brisbane massage parlours and day spas, and a popular central Queensland airport are the latest additions to the COVID-19 exposure site list.

Queensland has recorded four local COVID-19 cases from almost 60,000 tests over the past three days.

At least this should spice up the contact tracers' jobs! 😆 Even more if the wife answers the phone!

Tassie on war footing, mobilising Tassie army!

Tasmanian teen who tested positive to COVID-19 left Launceston home quarantine to visit an IGA

Mr Rockliff said the teen visited an IGA in Newnham with his cousin. The supermarket has now been declared an exposure site.

It is understood the teen was not wearing a mask.

Brisbane Times reaching for the stars on this presentation of the test numbers. Better, would have been to say "from a piddling average of less than 20,000 tests per day, at a time when there is almost certainly a growth of ignored or undetected infections"

Victoria isn't showing any sign that the cases will peak before reopening as has happened in NSW.
IMO that isn't a problem as long as the vaccine roll-out does the job of inducing a peak in hospitalisations/ICU/ventilated as has happened in NSW. Fingers crossed that that the NSW peak holds, which with anticipated 90+% vaccination I'm reasonably optimistic

PS: I'm anticipating a fair drop in NSW hospitalisations tomorrow given that normal discharge processes can resume after the long public holiday weekend

Continued reduction of cases in NSW - Dominic Perrottet also now confirmed as the new NSW Premier by 39 votes to 5, and he is tipped to look at opening things up sooner - as early as Friday - with NSW expected to reach 70% DD on Wednesday

Still a lot in hospital and ICU, and these are the key figures. Will be hoping these can continue to fall despite opening up.

There is, but they are also coming down, as vaccinations continue to go up - ICU & hospitalisations peaked on the 20th & 21st of Sep, respectively, at 242 & 1,268. The numbers today are 190 (down 21.5% from the peak) & 978 (down 23%)

Australia will buy 300,000 courses of an experimental antiviral pill in anticipation of the drug regulator approving it as a coronavirus treatment early next year.

The number is fairly telling in what the modelling must look like for next year.

Considering the poo the government found themselves in for lack of vaccine orders, they will order 10 times whatever they think they need just in case. Better safe than sorry. It's only money.

I expect pretty much everyone will be exposed and potentially develop an infection. Maybe only those non vaccinated will get the treatment?

SA Health have gone stark raving mad. This is a family who came into contact with the Mt Gambier woman. Copied from FB
“My family are close contacts of the case in Mount Gambier and have been told they have to go into a medi hotel at a cost of 4K per person. They are on a bus to Adelaide now. SA health I thought only international travelers had to pay to stay in hotel quarantine on arrival. Can you please confirm if people directed by SA health into a medi hotel have to pay for the stay? “

I'm not quite so sure, there have been a couple of events which have almost certainly led to a spike in Vic numbers (e.g. protests, Grand Finals) but experience in NSW and other jurisdictions show that when vaccinations get to a critical point the rate does slow and then drop fairly quickly. Sure, not quite yet but my general view has been that VIC is about a month behind NSW so still hopeful for a turnaround next two weeks or so. Unlike NSW haven't been tracking closely so it's only a gut feel but overseas experience has almost always been that when the numbers start to first stabilise and then drop they do so quite quickly (aka the old 'its always darkest before the dawn' saying).

It’s entirely unclear what they are actually getting
Some say courses, others say doses.
As I understand it 1 course = 10 doses.
Can patients be given 2 or more courses if not improving?.

Then is it a single batch purchase?. Or is several batches but over a period of time?.
Or a certain number of batches plus options for more. Total order 300,000? But less if options are not exercised?

Then which tablet?
The 200mg, 400mg or 800mg??
Is it 300,000 courses (or doses) based on equivalent of 200mg?. So if the recommendation turns out to be 800mg, is the true number divide by 4? Or the other way round?. The dosing has not been officially decided.

Remember that politicians love to inflate numbers…

If true one would expect most people will stop checking in. Why would you want to expose yourself to paying $4k simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time by accident?
